The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab - June 2022

Really clever premise and plot development. That old devil, he gives you exactly what you wish for to the letter, but not the spirit. Then he delights in your pain.
I really admired Addie’s ability to live the same troubles over and over - imagine not being able to buy clothes or rent an apartment. Or have friends. It would make for a lonely life and a lesser heroine would have given in a long time ago. But Addie keeps searching until she finds Henry and lives a lifetime of delight in his short existence. She also puts meaning in her life by inspiring artists - I thought the thread about the woman who recurs over and over in art could have been more fleshed out.
Ultimately I think she will triumph over Luc, who is after all so lonely that he pursues the only person who is a good match and understands him. You can see that he will seduce her with luxury when he couldn’t break her with want.

Just remove the periods that are within the brackets (and don't leave any space there). I added those so you could see the code.
Otherwise, please clearly mark your post as a spoiler and leave some space before the spoiler, like Cate did. (Thank you, Cate!)
Please remember this is for all comments, even if you are responding to someone else's spoiler.
Thank you all!

SPOILERS!!!!
Now when I mean ending I don’t mean the part that Addie finally will (eventually) win the battle with Luc, I mean Henry! I just felt sorry for him. And not because of his own infliction, but because of what Addie burdens him with. She saves his life, yes, but she also asks Luc that he remembers….. this is the part I have problems with. She wants him to remember her and miss her and dwell on what could have been all so that SHE can be remembered once. Honestly, he would have been better off finishing his deal than being burdened with her selfish needs for the rest of his life! I felt it was totally unfair, he gave her what she wanted…… and then she cursed him in a way. I think I’m just angry at her.

Rebecca - wow - great point about the ending, and asking Henry to be able to remember her which caused him pain. Had not thought about your point. At the same time, it was a gift as he finally found his purpose and calling with writing. His success.
While Addie loved Henry I do think that she also loved seeing new inventions, the world evolve, and she always had Luc to protect her. I think that was also a large part of her decision.
I think the book ran a little long.
One of the most unique stories I have ever read.
4 star read for me.
