Deep Black Sea and Dark Tide Rising by David M. Salkin

may re-read graphic novel Sea of Sorrows by Rich Douek

Recommended: The Visitors by Simon Sylvester

Robert Kratky (bolorkay) | 342 comments Is this challenge strictly limited to novels? I ask this because there's a fun, little anthology entitled , "Dead Bait" that seems to fill the bill here.

message 55: by Hayley (new)

Hayley | 82 comments Yay! I'll aim to do the full ten. And then we'll see how far I get.

message 56: by April (new)

April Moonlight Social Club (april-mlsc) | 10 comments I am terrified of big open bodies of water so I am all in for this as a scare the $h!t out of myself challenges. For that same reason, I am going for 3.

Into the Drowning Deep (Rolling in the Deep, #1)
Grant, Mira

If it involves water, it's all good. :)

Fantastic collection."

I second this recommendation. It's an excellent collection!

message 60: by Ina (new)

Ina | 55 comments Is it cheating to read horror books with the plot that is taking place on an island? I don't have any horror books that involves water directly. Got mostly haunted house and forest horror books. =)

Islands are surrounded by water. Sounds good to me! Enjoy!

It is very lake-centric, and would be perfect for this challenge. Unfortunately for this challenge, I just finished it last month.

Lisa | 620 comments I'm in! I love the HA group's challenges! I have appreciated perusing all of your lists, as I'm not well-versed in this subgenre.
I think these are the winners:

Beach Bodies: A Beach Vacation Horror Anthology
The Shadow over Innsmouth
The Fisherman
Something's Alive on the Titanic

Would love to chat as we go with anyone reading these same books!

Two Envelopes And A Phone I actually have an "Aquatic Horror" shelf, as a tribute to the fact that as a child reader, I first sought out SF and Horror with a marine theme.

Anja Henriksen | 147 comments I settled with 10...but realize I rarely read stories in the water, but near water should be manageable :D

for inspiration I can recommend Dead Crow by David Haynes, a creature feature in the water.

1) The Devil's Well by Daemon Manx - Deamon Manx (TBR) - italic code is fucked up for me - can't stop it again...
2) Blowie by Simon McHardy - Simon McHardy & Sean Hawker (TBR)

Haha yes, I think so! I chose the manga specifically since it's about the lighthouse, closer to the water...😂

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments Many of us in this group have read it already because it was a group read not too long ago, but I think The Troop by Nick Cutter would be a good fit for this challenge. It definitely fits the challenge criteria as it is set entirely on an island!

message 87: by Badseedgirl (new)

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments This challenge could not come at a better time. I am packing up for a week at beautiful Gulf Shores Alabama, otherwise known as the "Redneck Riviera." Where I will be sitting on the beach with my Kindle and a cold beverage in my Tervis cup, reading several beach themed horror books, while my partner innocently ogles young women wearing very little clothing. Wish me luck!

I'm really intrigued by Night of the Crabs but it is not available in digital and the cheapest print version I could find was over $50.00 with shipping. At those prices, it will always be a intergang mystery to me.

message 93: by Laura (new)

Laura | 6 comments Just finished The Route of Ice and Salt by Jose Luis Zarate. A novella, it imagines the journey of the shipbwhic brings Dracula to England. I really liked it quite a bit.

I've signed up to read fifteen books for the challenge. The first one I read was Deck Z, which was zombies on the Titanic, about what you would expect.

Netanella | 572 comments Two thumbs up on The Route of Ice and Salt. I thought it was an awesome story!

message 95: by Badseedgirl (new)

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments I'm adding Earthworm Gods by Brian Keene. I have a love/hate relationship with Mr. Keene. I want to like his work, but so far the stuff I have read has only been "Meh."

Although it is called Earthworm Gods, it set on Earth after it rains continuously for 30+ days everywhere. The world is flooded, let the fun begin.
