Summer Horror Reading Challenge
Is this challenge strictly limited to novels? I ask this because there's a fun, little anthology entitled , "Dead Bait" that seems to fill the bill here.
I am terrified of big open bodies of water so I am all in for this as a scare the $h!t out of myself challenges. For that same reason, I am going for 3.My Heart Is a Chainsaw (The Lake Witch Trilogy, #1)
Jones, Stephen Graham *
Below
Lockwood, Ryan *
Into the Drowning Deep (Rolling in the Deep, #1)
Grant, Mira
I'll participate. I'm busy with the other challenges, so I set my goal at 1 to give me a starting point. If I do more, cool!

If it involves water, it's all good. :)

Is it cheating to read horror books with the plot that is taking place on an island? I don't have any horror books that involves water directly. Got mostly haunted house and forest horror books. =)

Islands are surrounded by water. Sounds good to me! Enjoy!

I didn’t realize My Heart is a Chainsaw was aquatic horror! I’m about to read (listen to) Salvage which is about a Lake, so I might squeeze in 3 now if I also read a 3rd specifically for this challenge.

Unfortunately for this challenge, I just finished it last month.

I actually have an "Aquatic Horror" shelf, as a tribute to the fact that as a child reader, I first sought out SF and Horror with a marine theme.https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Oh, thank you so much for the link Two Envelopes, that's great!For anyone looking for titles - I also have a shelf "Marine Horror", it's not as well populated as yours though;

No problem! For anyone else also interested, it is a companion manga, in case you don't read those haha! It's about the girls in the lighthouse though :)

Haha yes, I think so! I chose the manga specifically since it's about the lighthouse, closer to the water...😂

Gianfranco wrote: "Gianfranco, these anthologies look great. I have one on my list called Beach Bodies, same editor as Slice of Paradise.
Many of us in this group have read it already because it was a group read not too long ago, but I think
would be a good fit for this challenge. It definitely fits the challenge criteria as it is set entirely on an island!
This challenge could not come at a better time. I am packing up for a week at beautiful Gulf Shores Alabama, otherwise known as the "Redneck Riviera." Where I will be sitting on the beach with my Kindle and a cold beverage in my Tervis cup, reading several beach themed horror books, while my partner innocently ogles young women wearing very little clothing. Wish me luck!

I was torn between buying Beach Bodies or Slices of Paradice, Lisa, so I tossed a coin in the end... a good way of not choosing XD

I'm really intrigued by Night of the Crabs but it is not available in digital and the cheapest print version I could find was over $50.00 with shipping. At those prices, it will always be a intergang mystery to me.
I shot for 3 books, but we'll see how many I can work in. Not sure which books I'll even read yet but excited to find out!
Just finished The Route of Ice and Salt by Jose Luis Zarate. A novella, it imagines the journey of the shipbwhic brings Dracula to England. I really liked it quite a bit.I've signed up to read fifteen books for the challenge. The first one I read was Deck Z, which was zombies on the Titanic, about what you would expect.
I'm adding Earthworm Gods by Brian Keene. I have a love/hate relationship with Mr. Keene. I want to like his work, but so far the stuff I have read has only been "Meh."Although it is called Earthworm Gods, it set on Earth after it rains continuously for 30+ days everywhere. The world is flooded, let the fun begin.
