20.4 - Golden Oldies - Julia103's Task: A Group of Prides

The word “Pride” has several different usages. Choose one of the meanings from the below options. REQUIRED: Indicate in your post the option that you used.

Graphic novels/sequential art/comics allowed if it fits SRC requirements.

Option A. Pride is the collective noun for a group of lions. Read a book with more than one lion on the cover or with the word LIONS in the title (subtitles excluded).

If choosing the cover option, the picture can be stylized or realistic, but must be recognizable as lions.
Examples: Morality for Beautiful Girls (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, #3) by Alexander McCall Smith Living Free The Story of Elsa and her Cubs by Joy Adamson Lion Hearted The Life and Death of Cecil and the Future of Africa's Iconic Cats by Andrew Loveridge

REQUIRED: Include the cover in your post.

If choosing the title, the word must be exact match (Plural only, not embedded or possessive): Examples: The Lions of Fifth Avenue, Lie Down with Lions.

Option B. June is Pride Month, celebrating LGBTQ+ history and culture.
Read a book with one of the following MPGs: gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, asexual, non-binary, or queer. MPGs can be stand-alone or embedded.

Option C. A more traditional meaning of pride is “a high or inordinate opinion of one's own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc.” (dictionary.com). This meaning is illustrated by Mr. Darcy in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

Read Pride and Prejudice or a book that is a re-telling, prequel or sequel of Pride and Prejudice or focuses on one or more of the characters from Pride and Prejudice.

For purposes of this task, a re-telling is one that mentions Pride and Prejudice in the book description, mentions it in a review on the main page, or has the MPG "Retelling."

Examples: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (retelling), Death Comes to Pemberley (sequel), The Secret Life of Miss Mary Bennet (Mary is one of the five Bennett sisters in the original story)

REQUIRED: If it is not clear from the book description how this fits the task, please include an explanation.

Please verify this for the "lions on book cover":
The Rook (The Checquy Files, #1) by Daniel O'Malley
It shows two lions rampant.

from: http://scottish-at-heart.com/lion-ram...
"The term 'lion rampant' actually refers to the positioning or attitude of the lion. A rampant lion is shown as a profile of a lion standing upright (on one or both hind legs) and the forelegs are raised, claws unsheathed, as if to strike."

Yes, those are clearly lions.

Option A also included books with the word LIONS in the title, so this would work regardless of the cover.

Yes, it needs to have one of the words. There a lot out there that have both the abbreviation and the more specific word.

I also wondered about this. I did a search for "Gay" in the shelves. The first listed book says it was marked Gay 621 times. However, on the MPG it does not show "Gay" at all. It shows LGBT and LGBT>Queer. The second book also shows those two MPG listings, but not "Gay", even though it was supposedly shelved 606 times with that term.

I would submit that LGBT or LGBTQ be on this list, too, since some aren't actually used on the MPG part.

I looked at the shelf you mentioned and at the top two books.
Both of them would be allowable for this task because Queer is an MPG and that word is included in the task. The reason that Gay didn't show up as an MPG despite being shelved over 600 times as Gay is because all the MPGs have more than 800 shelvings.
