Fantasy Adventure. MC is a student in wizard school but is very bad at magic, finds a magic book that eats other books and teaches him the skills contained, the book will kill him if not fed.

I read this book in from 2013 to 2018. I think I read it on Gravity Tales but with the site's reformatting I couldn't find it again. I think that the Book MC got was called a Grimoire but am not sure, I also think that it was sentient and could talk. To narrow it down, I remember an early plot point was there being a hero in the past that was just really good at magic missile.
