Helen indeed makes the bold first move and goes to see Rhys to win him back. He issues her an ultimatum before he’ll agree to marry her. Do you think he would have even if she’d refused?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I'm not sure he would have pursued her. I'm pretty sure he saw her as an acquisition he wanted and was ticked that Kathleen broke the engagement. I think he was surprised that Helen felt differently and still wanted to marry him.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I don't think Rhys would have pursued Helen. Kathleen and Devon embarrassed him and brought up all his insecurities about not being good enough.

I do think Rhys is an honorable man. He might gloat for a few days if Helen refused him, but he would have pursued her. If he doesn't love her entirely at this point, he is on that path.

As sure as I was that Helen would make the first move, I’m equally unsure about Rhys eventually doing so if she hadn’t or letting her go if she refused the ultimatum. He felt like she’d rejected him because of class and that seems to be the one thing he cannot forgive.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I love that Helen went to see him to tell him that she didn't want to break the engagement. I don't think that he would have pursued her if she didn't agree to his ultimatum. His pride would have got in the way.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments It's interesting that I saw Rhys differently than everyone else.

I don't know why I feel like he would have pursued Helen after a cooling off period. You all are correct. His personality and pride would make him turn his back on anyone else who rejected him. However, he feels so strongly about Helen. I still believe that he would confront her in the future.

You may be right, Sharon. His feelings for her are really strong but the class issue seems to be a deal breaker for Rhys. That’s the only reason I felt he’d shut down permanently.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I think he felt a lot for Helen at this point, she nursed him and was very kind. He soaked up her warmth and gentleness during a time he really needed that. If Helen hadn't gone to him to try and repair the broken engagement, which she had nothing to do with, I don't see him pursuing her.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I also think after some time passed, he would have pursued Helen because he really felt something for her. I think his pride was hurt and that would take a bit of time before he would be ready to go after her.
