Possibly set in India. Father gives boy a book bag for him to take to school, maybe first day. Young reader, my mother read this to me in about 1967. Book may be older. One drawing of boy walking to school carrying what looks like a briefcase - for his first day of school.

I’m not positive about India, it seemed an exotic place to me! He walked to school in sandals through the trees. His family had given him a new book bag. Loved it!
