SOLVED. YA Fantasy Portal novel with boy going into magic world through a store. [s]

Ok, so what I remember from reading this when I was 17 (2018) is that there is a young male protagonist who walks by a store and goes inside because he is intrigued and then there is some sort of quest master who then gives him a quest and he goes through some portal (that I think is either in a door or a wardrobe but isn't Narnia). It is a series and the protagonist comes in and out of the world. He gets to know a group and they go on adventures to different places and it ends well for most. It feels very Dungeons and Dragons esc (in fact I was going to copy some elements for a DND campaign I was going to do but I never wrote down the title in the notebook I found).
