SOLVED. Fantasy book series from childhood (so guessing 1990s or 2000 release). Girl heroine city where families have different ranks and colours - their family is quite low I think but not the lowest (which might be brown?). [s]

Part where she is chased by army of young people who are super soldiers that she wasn’t in time to stop from being released. Think they are climbing up to get her (maybe in a tree?) laughing and saying things to each other like “I’m going to beat you” and “let me kill her”
