There will be a buddy read for The Twelve by Justin Cronin in September. This is the second book in a trilogy and we will read one each month.

The Twelve (The Passage, #2) by Justin Cronin

In his internationally bestselling and critically acclaimed novel The Passage, Justin Cronin constructed an unforgettable world transformed by a government experiment gone horribly wrong. Now the scope widens and the intensity deepens as the epic story surges forward with The Twelve.

In the present day, as the man-made apocalypse unfolds, three strangers navigate the chaos. Lila, a doctor and an expectant mother, is so shattered by the spread of violence and infection that she continues to plan for her child’s arrival even as society dissolves around her. Kittridge, known to the world as “Last Stand in Denver,” has been forced to flee his stronghold and is now on the road, dodging the infected, armed but alone and well aware that a tank of gas will get him only so far. April is a teenager fighting to guide her little brother safely through a landscape of death and ruin. These three will learn that they have not been fully abandoned—and that in connection lies hope, even on the darkest of nights.

One hundred years in the future, Amy and the others fight on for humankind’s salvation...unaware that the rules have changed. The enemy has evolved, and a dark new order has arisen with a vision of the future infinitely more horrifying than man’s extinction. If the Twelve are to fall, one of those united to vanquish them will have to pay the ultimate price.

Hey guys! I'm almost finished with The Passage (man these are long books!) and will be starting this one in early September. This story is amazing and I can't wait to continue.

Felina | 648 comments Yay! I’m planning to start this one soon.

I'm about 100 pages in. I'm really liking (view spoiler)

Emilie | 49 comments This one didn't take me near as long as the Passage, so in some ways I was more engaged. I enjoyed the story, I just never really knew where it was headed, which is some ways is good, but when it got to the main story line it was a little lack luster for me. And again like the Passage, I still am scratching my head at that ending. Like I know what happened, but do I really know what happened? Haha.

Felina | 648 comments Zert! I read Sally's spoiler cause I was like 'I've read this before so it's fine' forgetting that I don't remember anything. My own fault! I hope to start this one early next week.

I'm almost to 450 pages in. (view spoiler) This almost feels like a fantasy book to me, not the plot of course, but the amount of characters and locations to keep up with. I was glad there were some maps to help!

Finished last night, that was so good. Loving these characters, well most of them. I could have lived without Sod, jeez that guy.

Felina | 648 comments Hi guys!! Sorry for setting up this group read and then being MIA. I found out I have breast cancer and it sent me for a whirl. Needless to say I haven’t been reading because I can’t concentrate on anything. However, all the tests have been done and the prognosis is very good! I’ve got surgery the first week of October and then I’ll begin treatment. I’m not clear on how treatment should work yet but I do know that surgery means down time and down time means reading time. So I’m hoping to be able to catch up quickly and join you all for the third book on time.

Oh shit Felina! I'm so sorry you're going through this! I do know that you're a bad ass so I have no doubt you'll tell that cancer to fuck right off. Sending healing vibes and love girl, you got this.

Felina | 648 comments Thanks! Stage 1 and it hasn’t spread to my lumph nodes. Gonna pop that sucker out and do some chemo or radiation and then I’m back to fighting form. Thanks for the vibes. 🤗🥹

Felina | 648 comments Thanks Ian!

Felina | 648 comments Dang! This book is so good. I forgot almost everything about it from when I read it originally.

I’m jumping right into Mirrors so I can finish it this month and then start Leviathan next month!
