Read this last month. Curious to see what others think. I will wait to comment till I know others have started.
Beth, there's already a lot of discussion in the other thread, since lots of people have finished this! Hop on over there to chat :)
Seeing 60+ comments on the other thread on day 1 gave me a bit of a shock! I suppose that explains why my local library had so many holds on the books and ebooks... but somehow I did manage to get a copy of the audiobook, so I will be getting to this one in the near future. The concept is certainly interesting, and the topic seems as though it may be coming closer and closer to relevancy.
About halfway through this and I am fascinated in the way the the world reveal is slowly unfolding along with Klara's growing understanding of it. We don't know much more than she does at any given time. Very interesting. I found this at the library where it has been very popular.
Started this yesterday, it's my first Ishiguro. I'm not usually big on the AI/robot friend stories but this one is intriguing.
I've just started reading and am enjoying it so far. I really like that we are getting the story from Klara's point of view, which makes it feel quite fresh.I love the exploration of androids in fiction and media, but as I've seen this done a lot before it'll be interesting to see if Ishiguro manages to do a unique spin on it!
Ishiguro is one of the authors that has always been on my to-read list, but, if I’m honest, I’ve always been a little scared to read. I’ve got the impression that most of his books are pretty soul-crushing, and I wasn’t sure if I could put myself through it. Anyway, as one of my friends wanted a buddy to read this with, I finally took the leap. English isn’t her first language, so we are reading just a short section per week. So far, I am really enjoying it.I’m looking forward to seeing what other people think of it, but I won’t be able to finish in time to join in the conversation on the other thread.
I've already finished this! My first impressions were fairly good, actually, and there are some fresh takes on writing from the POV of an AI. However, I can't say much since it's been a few weeks and my feelings for the book, etc, have melded to an overall one now, although I remember enough scenes to have more discussion once we are spoiler free.
