2022 May Reading Challenge
I checked out the radio play of the first movie a long time ago. It was really good. I didn't know there was more than one.
I will be reading Star Wars: Aliens, Creatures, & Beasts by Thomas Macri. I was stunned at how many titles came up in a subject search for Star Wars limited by Juvenile Picture Books!
I love Star Wars! I have been meaning to check out the radio plays again. I listened to them a long time ago and loved them. That being said, while I have seen all the movies, I am not current on the many, many books that have been written associated with the series. I might have to ask my brother (who is a far bigger fan than I am) what is the best Star Wars book to start out with. By the way for those of you considering the radio dramas, I had a hard time finding them in the catalog (So much Star Wars!). I ended up searching under the screenplay author Brian Daley to find them. Good Luck all! May the Force be With you!
If you haven't read any Star Wars books, I would start with Timothy Zahn's original series, Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command. I really wish the Disney sequels had followed these books, which in my mind are true canon.

If you want something Star Wars related but not strictly a "Star Wars book," and a quick fun read, The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger might be a good pick.I am planning to read William Shakespeare's Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope by Ian Doescher which looks like a fun take on the original Star Wars movie.

Yes, but if Disney had followed the books, they would have had to pay royalties, and they already don't like to do that. #Disneymustpay

I am super annoyed that these stories are now "Legends" they had a lot of super cool ideas in them.
I mostly just read the novelizations - I think I read The Phantom Menace by Terry Brooks 3 times in a row. Of course, I also saw episode 1, seven times in the theater - because it was SO COOL - to young me.
If you can't tell, I'm super excited about the new series.
The Radio Plays are really great. I've listened to them before. Definitely recommend.
And, I also really enjoyed the comics Goodnight Darth Vader by Jeffrey Brown.

Disney is full of weasels nowadays.I was pregnant when I saw Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones and for Revenge of the Sith I had a newborn. Young me was mesmerized by the original trilogy.
Zahn's stories are still the best.
Disney has always been full of weasels. Walt, himself, was in the process filming Mary Poppins in spite of the fact that he had purchased no rights whatsoever to the book. Not writing the script, not planning a film, not casting, but actually in the process of filming. For reference, see the film Saving Mr. Banks. So it is not a post-Walt phenomenon.
In not Star Wars news but I am posting here because I am excited anyway! Strange New Worlds premiers on Paramount+ on Thursday May 5!!!!!
If you are like me and like both Star Wars and Star Trek. :)

Concerning Star Trek...Do you need to have seen Star Trek Discovery to enjoy Strange New Worlds?
Good question. Discovery is it's own ship. Strange New Worlds is on the Enterprise. But Pike and Spock do appear on Discovery 2 years into the Discovery series.

I don't know. But probably not. I heard that Strange New Worlds is going to be more episodic. I just think you need to know that Captain Pike is the captain of the Enterprise before Kirk, and that SPOILER (view spoiler)

Since I've watched 2 seasons of Discovery, I looked at the spoiler with one eye opened in case. But, yeah, I knew that. And I like your comment about convenience! Ain't it the truth! Laughed out loud! Another spoiler alert: (view spoiler)
My May the Fourth shirt this year was a Storm Trooper shooting and yelling "I missed!" and a red shirt on the ground saying "I died anyway".It's the best.

I feel like I need this shirt.

I love that so much!

That shirt is brilliantI just finished Postcards Frome the Edge by Carrie Fisher. Kinda funny but not my favorite. I'd have liked more detail about rehab, honestly.
I'd have liked more detail about rehab, honestly."You could have more info about rehab...if you'd go...but like Amy, you just keep saying "no, no, no."
(Don't worry folks, Tanya is my little sister. I'm supposed to tease her.)
While I was at the Library I found this book.
I haven't read a choose your own adventure book in a long time and it was fun to read it.

I love the movie with Meryl Streep and Shirley McLaine as daughter and mother.

Did you read it multiple times to try out different endings? At one point in my elementary school years I absolutely kept notes, by tracking my page number decisions so I could make different choices on my way through the story.

I think the only book by her I read was The Princess Diarist - which is more about her younger life. There aren't as many details about filming as you would think, based on the title. But it was interesting to see her thoughts about her early diary entries.

I used to pick a good ending for Choose Your Own Adventure Books and work out the path to get there and then read it (because I'd usually die on my own.)

I did read it several time. I should have taken notes. That is a great idea for the future.
Linda wrote: "I did read it several time. I should have taken notes. That is a great idea for the future."I've never read one. Can you get them as ebooks?
I totally read that as "can you get them as eaudiobooks?" and my brain spent a solid few minutes trying to figure out how that would work ><
Britt, Book Habitue wrote: "I totally read that as "can you get them as eaudiobooks?" and my brain spent a solid few minutes trying to figure out how that would work ><"That's too funny! What I first I wrote was "ebook or audio book". Then I wondered how an audio book would work and went back and deleted the "or audio book" part. So yours is not the only brain that tried to figure out how it would work.
My finished Star Wars related books:1. Star Wars: The Original Radio Drama by Brian Daley
2. Star Wars, Episode V The Empire Strikes Back by Brian Daley
3. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi: The Original Radio Drama by Brian Daley

The Luke and Leila one is available as an ebook, the others are not.
Let me know if you read it as an ebook. I would be interested to know how that works out.
I will probably only do it if we get a challenge to do a choose your own adventure reading. But if that happens, I'll let you know.
I read The World According to Star Wars (and by read I mean listened to) and found it very interesting. Even if I do disagree with the author about the ranking of the movies lol.
Well, now I'm curious. What's everyone's Star Wars film rankings?
My rankings would be: IV, VI, V, Rogue One, VII, I, II, III, Solo, VIII, IX.
My rankings would be: IV, VI, V, Rogue One, VII, I, II, III, Solo, VIII, IX.
I haven't seen all of them yet, but I like VII and VIII and would like to pretend that II and III don't exist. The original trilogy is of course the best and Rogue One was also really good.
V, VI, IV, Rogue One, VII, IX, Solo, III, II, VIII, II finished William Shakespeare's The Empire Striketh Back.
I finished William Shakespeare's Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope by Ian Doescher last night. Super fun! Act 3 Scene 1 in Mos Eisley was perfect!

This month, in honor of Star Wars Day on May 4th, and the release of the new Obi-Wan Kenobi streaming series at the end of the month, your challenge is to read something connected to Star Wars. That means you can read a book that takes place in the Star Wars Galaxy like The Fallen Star by Claudia Gray, or a nonfiction book about Star Wars, like The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge by Amy Ratcliffe or even a biography or memoir of people who were part of creating it like George Lucas: A Life by Brian Jay Jones, or Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher.
I know we have many audiobook listeners that participate too, and we have Star Wars Radio Plays! We have the original trilogy available with full cast audio that was created in the 1980s. They were able to use the movie sound effects and the music, and a lot of the original cast returned.
May the force be with you!
