So, I adore this book so much, but I was wondering if you could tell me what y'all think Cadence held onto bout the liars?

I think she was holding onto her guilt and the her love for them, she couldn’t comprehend that her liars were dead, she had survivors guilt and blamed herself she needed to heal mind and body before she could accept their death and forgive herself some of the blame of the fire too and once the prices slowly started to fit together she started to let go as much as she could while accepting that a part of her died with them that night too imo.

The mind is tricky. I think her mind choose not to believe they were dead in order to cope with the fact they were, and she was the reason why. Not sure this answered your question, do you mind elaborating if it didn't.

i haven't finished the book yet but i think shes just scared

I agree with ahlyha. It was all a coping mechanism to avoid something traumatic. It made reading it a bit confusing.

I think she was holding on because she lost them all so abruptly and her mind couldn't grasp it all at once so her mind made these people until she left like she could take it all

I agree with what everyone is saying that she is holding onto the guilt she faced from being the sole survivor out of the liars. However, I wouldn't say it was a choice per say, because of the drugs I believe she was just hallucinating and that it could be taken as separate from her feelings of guilt. I think she might have just been sick and not able to realize the trauma.

Katie I was thinking this too. They kept going back to the drugs and how hazy they made her feel. These instances with "the liars" I believe were part of th ...more

Cadence was holding onto her fear and regret through her rebellion of the family name. She realized the damage she had caused to not only John, Mirren, and Gat, but rather their family as well. Towards the end, she imagines they are all together again signifying what she hopes to hold on to.
