Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Finished Runaway Groomsman and added options for the mini in case you're doing any switching around. I'm on my phone today so haven't linked it yet. I'll do it in the morning when I get on a laptop.

Would it be best to hang off starting any new books till the 1st? I still have a couple of others on the go that'll keep me busy till then.

The maze starts on 1st, but nothing started before then can be used, so finish things whenever you get to them.

Insiyah (insiyahxo) | 609 comments Just completed And the Mountains Echoed, which is MPG Historical Fiction.

It's a really good look into people - their sadness, their grief, their exasperation, their guilt... it's not really a plot based book, it's more character focused, touching on moments in the lives of characters whose lives all intersect. Highly recommended if you enjoy reflective books.

I have liked all four of this author's books (that I am aware of, are there more?) I like The Kite Runner best, but this one was good too.

I enjoyed Kite Runner, but don't think I've read any of the others yet.

Task 1. Read a book with 41-50 chapters
Heading East - even page number

This is our first task for the maze if any one wants to get involved.

message 507: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I'd love to get involved Sophie but I don't think I'm a fast enough reader, particularly for this task. It'd probably take me a few days to read a book with 40+ chapters.

message 508: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
No worries! The first few will probably end up being taken by speed readers, but hopefully after that we will get lucky and have books started after 1st June (9pm GMT) that fit the criteria and are nearly done so other people can join in too.

I'm not putting myself forward for this one either. My mother in law is arriving for the weekend just before the maze starts so reading time isn't going to be the priority.

If we're desperate for an H you could use Wildfire. It's not the longest but I've finished it and haven't put any mini tasks against it.

I'll finish a book that fits with L with 448 pages by the end of the day.

Denise (drams5) | 405 comments I just finished the busiest of busy times. I'm so relieved.

Added The Fine Art...to my TT shelf. Sorry about that.

I'm a little confused by the maze. It looks like some have already made made progress, but I didn't think it started until June 1. I may have missed something. Actually, there's a very good chance I missed something!

Thanks! Well done on surviving the busiest of times.

There are a lot of individual mazes which people have been working on since March. The one you want to look at is called Trojans and is right down at the bottom of the home page.

Found it. Do we all need the username and password for the maze or just the captains?

message 520: by Sophie, The other one (new)

I think just the captains and cocaptains will have it to start with - want to minimise the cahnce of anything going wrong.

Probably for the best if I'm involved! 😂 I found the thread for the maze group. I'm honestly just catching up. I'm hoping to be able to help. My reading speed varies so much with my work schedule, but it might work out at some point!

message 522: by Denise (new)

Insiyah (insiyahxo) | 609 comments I couldn't bring myself to get into A Little Life for a bit, so I spent the morning reading Redshirts because I decided to listen to the part of my brain that's been trying to lust over this. Total Star Trek spoof, and I couldn't stop laughing at some points.

Definitely worth a read. I think it might be available on NetGalley. I had a print copy from the publisher, but I think I saw that they were releasing it as an e-ARC.

I can't remember if any of you were children's librarians, or if I need to widen my gr net. My 4 1/2 has outgrown preschooler picture books and we are trying to find new things to read him at bedtime. He really enjoying The 13-Storey Treehouse so any recommendations for similar things would be amazing.

There are a bunch of books for ages 5+ in the 1001 Children's Books You Must Read Before You Grow Up. I made a spreadsheet if you would like to take a look: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Hmm...maybe try Inspector Flytrap by Tom Angleberger or A Beginning, a Muddles, and an End by Avi or The Platypus Police Squad series. My boys all liked the Mr. Lemoncello books and the Platypus Police Squad books. They actually wrote emails to Jarrett J. Krosoczka and Chris Grabenstein and eventually heard back from them!

The Bad Guys and Diary of a Wimpy Kid are extremely popular series with kids, but parents don't always love them...lots of name-calling, burp/fart jokes, etc. My own kids liked them, but were older than your son when they read them. So it depends on what you're comfortable with.

I'll try to look around the children's section this week and see if anything else jumps out at me. Good luck!

Denise (drams5) | 405 comments Note: I'm reading the Kindle version of Carrie Soto Is Back. GR keeps switching me to the Hardcover edition. I even tried saving from my laptop. I don't think I've ever had this issue before, but fwiw, I'm reading the 352 page Kindle version.

There's been steady progress on the maze today.

Task: Read a book whose author (first or last) starts with H

While we could go in any direction, East (even p number) or South (N-Z title) would be best.

message 545: by Navi (new)

Navi (nvsahota) | 730 comments I have a bunch of books I started before June 1 that I need to finish before I can start helping with these tasks - sorry!

message 546: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
No worries at all! I like to keep everyone in the loop so if you do have something, you know the option of using it in the maze is there. I'm not likely to catch all the tasks though as there are some speed readers all over the world involved.

message 547: by Insiyah (new)

Insiyah (insiyahxo) | 609 comments My suggestion if you want to get involved in the Maze is to enable notifications on the Maze chat - you'll be able to keep yourself updated that way 😊

message 548: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Random question, has anyone read the Murderbot Diaries? If so do you know if it's OK to read book 6 before book 5?

I've read 1 through 4 but my library hold for 6 came in way before the hold on 5 so I'm going to have to either read them out of sequence or return 6 and wait 3 or 4 months to borrow again as there's a hefty waitlist

Keri | 379 comments I’m really confused by the maze. I think I’ll head over to that thread and see if I can figure it out.

I’m also really confused by the BOTM. I read Travelling Cat Chronicles finishing on 5/31, but did I have to be writing discussion questions to get us points? And where are the discussions happening? Sorry, I’m trying to figure things out…

I want to read two of this months so I feel like I should figure out what’s going on with it…
