Starts May 15th, at 9 PM London UK (BST) and goes for 3 months, ending on August 15th.
COUNTDOWN to the start
https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

You can check/add further cities here for the Countdown

https://www.timeanddate.com/worldcloc...

RULES
All About Tower Teams 9

PLEASE READ THE RULES CAREFULLY!

This time, the theme is to be inspired by the Greek Muses while making your towers. You can read whatever you want as usual.
◈ Books must be />100 pages. NOTE: This number is lower than our other team challenges!
◈ Audio books are allowed. (For page numbers, use the "default" GR book page numbers. If the "default" is a Large Print version, use the next most popular edition for page numbers.
If there is no print / ebook, then the audio book must be longer than 3 hours, and page numbers will be set at 100 pages, no matter how long the audio is)
◈ Books with MPGs Childrens / Kids / Poetry / Play / Graphic Novel / Illustrated / Photography / Art (or which have "Illustrated" in the title or an "Illustrator" contributor in the metadata) must have at least 30,000 words (must be a verified count. sites that provide estimated word counts are not valid sources for verifying word count). ArBookFind is a great site to double check (there are also .co.uk and .com.au versions). If in doubt, ask your captain. A good rule of thumb is that if the audio is over 3 hours, the book will be long enough.
◈ Anything with the word" boxed set" in the title on Goodreads can not be used as "one book". They need to be shelved as separate books to count for this challenge.
◈ Any book in any language will count, as long as it meets the criteria.
◈ "Re-reads" will be allowed, if it has been six months since you have read the book. This includes listening to the audio version, if you've already read the book.
◈ For audio only books, the page count will be set as 100, no matter how long the audio is.

◈ For Spell-it-out tasks, we can use:
- Author's name
- Narrator's name
- Book title (can use or ignore A/The)
- Series title
- Characters names

If Real Life gets in the way of your reading goals, just give us a shout as we may be able to help each other out by reading extras.

If you end up reading more books than what you signed up for, I will create an "extra books" tab on the tracking sheet and you can add those books there. They may come in handy for rainy days. :)

Dear Teamies,

the Monsters Mini (thankfully) is coming to the end by 15 July, 9 pm UK time.

Here is the COUNTDOWN
https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

At the same time, a new Mini Challenge is starting, here are the details.

Muses July Mini Challenge

The most important rule is that any books since you have started since the beginning of the challenge count, provided you finish after the countdown (15 July, 9 pm UK time).

Each book can only be used for 1 task in this mini challenge.

We like players to be creative, that's what makes this fun. However, please do not hurt yourself over thinking the tasks. If you aren't sure a book works for a task, ask your team. If there still is some indecision, your captains can ask within the captain's group. Decisions made in the captain's group are final.

Books used may be started at any point during TT but cannot be finished before the start of the mini challenge. Books used for this must be completed by the end of the mini challenge timeframe. This mini challenge starts on 15th July at 9pm GMT.

Books used for this mini challenge cannot be used for other mini challenges.

THALIA
The muse of comedy needs a laugh. Using book titles, it is time to write a comedy. Anything that makes you laugh goes.

You can use a maximum of 20 book titles.

MELPOMENE
After reading your comedies inspired by Thalia, Melpomene appears and everything takes a darker turn. As muse of Tragedy, she has your team holding you head in our hands as you write a tragedy using book titles.

You can use a maximum of 20 book titles.

URANIA
Also known as the muse of mathematics, Urania feels there has been a lack of numbers in this TT. It’s time to make chains of sequential series numbers to placate her.

Your chains must contain at least 4 books and you can use up to 16 books in this section.

POLYHYMNIA
Numbers don’t interest Polyhymnia as much as they do Urania, but geometry and shapes certainly catch her eye. To pay homage to this muse, we’d like you to create 3 title squares (I.e. 12 books).

The book along the top and down the left edge should share the 1st letter. The book along the top’s last letter should match the right hand edge’s 1st letter.

The book along the bottom should have the same 1st letter as the last letter of the book on the left and a matching last letter with the book on right.

ERATO
Erato wants to feel the love and the romance. She’s quite traditional so polyamory isn’t her thing. Instead she’d like 10 pairs of books. How you create your pairs is up to you, but creativity is to be applauded.

Possible examples include a pair where one book has a dog on the cover and the other a cat; books where the authors initials are the reverse of each other; identical covers.

CLIO
The muses of history would like you to look back in time. As far back as your tbr will allow. Now is the time to stop being distracted by shiny and new, and instead appease Clio by reading books that have been languishing on your tbr shelf. She is only interested if it has been there longer than a year though. Between your team you can read 16 books for Clio.

EUTERPE
You have all been doing a great job finding musical instruments for the muse of music, song and flute playing. She wants to throw a concert to celebrate the end of Tower Teams. Please find her 8 books with instruments on the cover or in the text to create your band or orchestra and 8 books that have song lyrics or poems quoted within the story for the playlist.
16 books in total should be used to put on your concert.

TERPSICHORE
What event would be complete without a ball being thrown. The muse of choral lyrics and dancing is hoping that she has given you enough inspiration for a wonderful evening to be held in honour of you all and the work you have put into creating your book towers.

Every ball needs guests in fancy outfits, which can be found on the covers of books (12 books).

The food and drink are another key component; anyone for fish and chips (with vinegar)? To cater for your ball, use words from your books. Up to 12 books can be used. Points will be awarded per book but if you want to use more than one food item from each you can.

Finally you need to pick the setting for your ball. This should be created from items on the cover of your books (6 books).

Town Square

Theseus Maze Rules

Theseus needs your help! This year the minotaur isn't asking for seven young men and 7 maidens. Instead he wants books. Lots and lots of books.

As a supergroup of Trojans, Aegeans or Mythics, you need to make your way through the labyrinth, sacrificing a book to move every square. The books used have to be started after 1st June and have to be finished after you have revealed the square you want to use it for. You have until you complete the maze or the end of Tower Teams, whichever comes first.

Points
Each book used in the maze will gain 5 points for the team (mark the book with M in the minicode column of your spreadsheet).
The first supergroup to complete their maze will get 150 points, the second will get 100 points, the third will get 50 points. Each team in the supergroup will get this bonus.

When in the maze, you must choose a direction to travel: North, South, East, West.
Each direction has a specific quality to the book you need to read.
🏆 North - Book title starts with A-M
🏆 South - Book title starts with N-Z
🏆 East - Even number of pages
🏆 West - Odd number of pages

A task will generate automatically when you change squares in the maze. The book you read needs to meet the criteria for both the direction you want to travel and the task you have drawn.

For Example:
- Task: Read a book with the MPG Science Fiction.
- Wants to travel North (title first letter A-M).
- Ender's Shadow

Re reads are allowed (6 month rule)
Page count = minimum 100 pages
Any book meeting TT criteria is allowed.
Books used in the maze cannot be used for any other mini-challenge

As always, if the first letter of a title starts with ‘A’, ‘An’, ‘The’, etc., you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word.

Hello and welcome to Team Paris! So excited to play/read with you all.

I am Melinda (she/her) and will be your captain for this inspirational journey. If you have any questions, Gem, Saha, Shelby and I are here for you to help.

I live in Hungary, in a small lake town not far from Budapest with my husband and my eight-year-old son.
I work for an EU Agency in Budapest as a management support assistant, organising my bosses within an inch of their lives and mostly enjoying it (be warned! 😅 ), though you can have too much of a good thing sometimes.
I am a closet introvert (though my bosses and colleagues are not aware of this), so being all social and ready during workdays take their toll.
Reading is my restorative niche and my commute time between the office and my home, listening to audiobooks is sacred.

I love reading and reading challenges. I grew up in a Library, my mom is a retired Librarian. Books in any format are my joy, though I get more and more addicted to audiobooks.

My favourite genres are the classics, fantasy, golden age detective fiction and women's fiction. But I read everything if I am in the mood or my interest is peaked: non-fiction, sci-fi, romance, history, young-adult. However, I avoid the MPG horror/thrillers.

message 21: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 2035 comments Welcome everyone! I like Mel, am also a super introvert who works too closely with people too often so I cherish my reading time. I'm 100% with you Mel! It's completely my recharge time!

I'm an actor/producer in Los Angeles, which often means I spend too much time working in the bar. But it does mean my schedule's all over the place and is never super consistent so you'll find me on her at all sorts of odd hours.

I've done a number of TT's at this point, so if anyone has questions please ask! We're here to help. :)

As far as reading goes, I'm one of those I'll read anything really sort of people. My favorites though tend to be Fantasy/Paranormal, Romance, Sci-fi. I also tend to read a lot of sub genres within those categories. I'm a big reader of MM Romance too. But I like an eclectic bookshelf and I'm happy to try anything once.

Also...the June BOM polls are open for another day or two! Remember we get great points for participating in the BOM's both as a reader and as a DQ planner. ;) Make sure you go vote for what you'd like to see us reading next month!

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments Hi everyone! I'm so happy to be here on Team Paris, and think I've played with a lot of you before. I love all kinds of books, but my favorite genres are probably mystery, horror, thriller and sci-fi. I recently moved to Metropolis, IL in USA which is the official home of superman. Here's a pic of the statue in downtown Metropolis:

Gem ~ZeroShelfControl~ (zeroshelfcontrol) | 442 comments Hi everyone, I’m Gem. I played tower teams last year but I take part in all the annual challenges so I recognise a lot of you.
I’m from the UK like a few of you.
I read a whole mixed bag, I’m really big on buddy reads at the moment, but will be cutting them back after this month so I can be a bit more flexible with the needs of the challenge.
FYI klare on our team is my sister :) so if you see messages between us on here, don’t think we’re strangely over familiar haha.
Can’t wait to start this one!!

message 25: by Cordelia (new)

Cordelia | 479 comments Hi!

I live in the United States and I am a librarian, my current job actually allows me to read at work sometimes which is pretty awesome. I read pretty much all genres. I read a lot of historical fiction and fantasy, and I love when books also have a bit of romance to it.

I consider myself an extrovert but of course I love quiet time, especially to read.

This is my first TT, I have participated in Wheels once before.

Gem ~ZeroShelfControl~ (zeroshelfcontrol) | 442 comments JOB GOALS 😍😍

message 27: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1800 comments Hi everyone! I'm Rosina. I live in Western Canada - 2 hours from Banff.
I work in an accounting firm. Since Covid I now work from home and in January my husband retired. I certainly have the itch to retire.

I too am an introvert and as i get older my time alone reading is so precious to me. In my job everyone thinks I am an extrovert and the life of the party. Should have been in acting. But it tires me out to be "on" for 8 hours a day.

My hobbies beside reading are movies, card games, camping and watching sports. I really like basketball, baseball, & golf.

I read all kinds of genres - I like non fiction, historical fiction, mysteries, psychological thrillers. But if well written and a good story i will try it. Not so much on fantasy but do love PNR or UF.

I have lots of physical books but I am doing my best to downsize. I have lots on kindle and a bunch on audiobooks. I tend to like full cast audio books.

I read an interesting book last month The Appeal by Janice Hallett it is told in emails & text messages. It is a mystery set in a theatre group in England.

message 28: by Haley (new)

Haley (haleymadd) | 385 comments Hello! I'm Haley and live in South Florida. I'm a graduate student and work part-time as a server. I only have 3 classes during the summer so my work load is much better than my Spring term.

I would definitely say I'm an introvert and would much rather stay home with a book or two than go out and meet new people.

I borrow audiobooks from hoopla and libby any chance I can get and listen on my way to work or while doing house chores. I read a range of all genres, but my favorites are thriller, mystery, and fantasy. I want to start getting back into romance, but don't enjoy rom-coms too much (I find them a bit too predictable for my liking)

message 29: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 1044 comments Hello everyone! I'm Melanie and I live in New Jersey with my husband and our two cats. I work in finance at a publisher and have thankfully been working from home for the last 2 years (my introverted self loves not having to go into an office everyday). I've participated in a bunch of challenges in this group and others so I recognize a few of you from past challenges.

I primarily read romance (historical, contemporary, or suspense mostly) and mystery/thrillers. I also will pick up the occasional sci-fi or urban fantasy but I pretty much avoid high/epic fantasy and classics. I also don't read a ton of YA anymore but I'll pick up some now and again. Working from home means my audiobook listening is pretty much non-existent these days as I usually just have the TV on while I work.

I'm looking forward to this challenge starting, it's become one of my favorites over the years (although I think Wheel may always hold that top spot).

message 30: by Melindam (last edited May 04, 2022 01:15AM) (new)

Melindam | 8956 comments Welcome Jenny, Cordelia, Rosina, Haley, Melanie! And of course, fellow Cappies Gem & Shelby! :)

Lovely to have you on the team!

I love that you are reading covers such a wide variety of genres.
It is one of the reasons why I love team challenges: I also meet new books read/recommended by team members that I may not learn about otherwise. :)

Please share with us any favourite reads/authors whether recent discoveries or universal ones.

message 31: by Brittany (new)

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 1266 comments Hi Everyone! I'm Brittany and live in West Texas. I have an 11 year old son, 2 cats (Mrs. Nesbitt & Stevie Nyx) and a miniature Dachshund (Comet). I work with Computer Modeling and Simulation and just finished up my MFA degree. I am working on finishing up my 3rd draft of my first full-length novel. I have been on Goodreads for about 8 years, and created my own group about 6 or 7 years ago :) I am a reading challenge addict

I wish I could work remotely and am working towards that dream. Reading is my escape from everything. I read just about anything but love Fantasy/Horror/Sci-Fi/Psych Thriller/Historical Fiction/True Crime/Biography. I prefer physical and audiobooks.

Recent books that impacted me were:
Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki : freaking phenomenal, I can't even describe this book. It would sounds rediculous. Three Asian woman, one a Queen of Hell, one a spaceship commander, and one a trans violinist. It was powerful.
Memphis by Tara M. Stringfellow : A powerful and hard story about race and strong women across three generations of a Memphis family.
Better Luck Next Time by Julia Claiborne Johnson : This was fun, Ward was a great narrator and I loved the idea of women staying a dude ranch to get divorced haha.
Moon Witch, Spider King (The Dark Star Trilogy #2) by Marlon James :Not for the faint of heart, but one of the most powerfully written and narrated series I have ever read. It is aggressive and abrasive, and the cadence is interesting. This one was even better than book 1.
River, Sing Out by James Wade : A lyrical beautiful tale of an East Texas town with a Meth problem
Akata Witch (The Nsibidi Scripts #1) by Nnedi Okorafor : Loved the way this was told and the magical dimension in the real-world
Gideon the Ninth (The Locked Tomb, #1) by Tamsyn Muir : I have not laughed this many times at a book in a long time! brilliantly written. The witty sarcasm was perfectly done

I could go on, but those are my most recent 5 star reads. TT is always chaotic and fun.

My shelf is: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Hi Cordelia!

I guess being a Librarian has its ups and downs, like all professions, but it's a kind of dreamjob for me.
I have started flirting with the idea of entering a training course or try and find a job where I could deal with books. Maybe inspiration will struck one of these days. Until then, I am just "building" my own private library and making sure to visit our small, local one with my son regularly. :)

Haley,

audiobooks while doing household chores (or commuting to work) are my saving grace! :)

I am infinitely grateful to Audible and its immense choice of books. I am their enthusiastic subscriber (though I do not like the changes they have recently introduced).

In Hungary, there is a very limited choice of audiobooks and they are mostly available on CDs. Also, the Libraries do what they can, but borrowing ebooks or audiobooks is not an option. :(

I may prefer Wheels just a little bit to TT, but there's only a small margin there.

YA is very much a hit or miss genre with me, but I listened to this book recently and liked it so much. :)

Whisky Galore by Compton Mackenzie by Compton Mackenzie
love Scotland, and I really enjoyed this audiobook, narrated by a superb Scottish actor

The Shuttle by Frances Hodgson Burnett by Frances Hodgson Burnett, an undeservedly overlooked and forgotten classic, about "dollar princesses" marrying impoverished British aristocrats at the beginning of the 1900s

Miss Buncle's Book (Barbara Buncle #1) by D.E. Stevenson by D.E. Stevenson, my favourite comfort read

The Mods are working on this to add to the rules. Meanwhile, it is

- Author's name
- Narrator's name
- Translator's name
- Book title (can use or ignore A/The)
- Series title (can use or ignore A/The)
- Characters names

Melindam | 8956 comments Update: the Mods will edit that to

◈ Only books read and finished from the start of the challenge to 31 May will count for the Meet the Muses mini challenge.

That is a bit confusing as books can only be started from 9.00 pm BST (London time), but depending on the different time zones, some members will be able to finish books still on 15 May, I guess. :) But will post to the Captains' Group.

Gem ~ZeroShelfControl~ (zeroshelfcontrol) | 442 comments Thanks for clarifying Melindam :)
Holding off starting anything new
