Y’all I’m looking for a child’s book I read like 10 years ago. I only read the 2nd book of the series but not the first

My family always brought home random books so I read the second book In A series. I know it had Thorn in the title. I read it in probably 2012.

SPOILERS:

This book started with the female MC, probably less than 18, going to a city that’s surrounded by walls. She is told not to leave the city walls but ends up leaving. I think she had some animal companions.

COVER:

The cover was a reddish color. It had a girl with an animal at her side (a wolf I think?)
