It starts off with the POV of a teenage boy. His mother all of a sudden attacks him and tries to kill him, for seemingly no reason. His baby sister also "attacks" him but she was too young to even hurt him. Eventually his mother kills him and goes about her day like nothing happened.

I read it somewhere between 2014 and 2018.
Do you know why people are going crazy and trying to kill others?Are they zombies? Are they infected with a virus?
Not zombies, and I don't believe it was a virus either. I think it ended up being supernatural in nature.
I'm almost certain this is The Fury. The opening scene is exactly that, and the story follows a group of kids/teenagers to seem to trigger a sort of insanity in adults (who then act normally after the kids leave a certain radius). Not zombies and not a virus.It's several hundred pages long and I didn't realise it's the first of a series until I got to the end.
