I'm planning on reading The Atlas Six and my version definitely has a sword on the cover.
I'm planning to read A Dance with Dragons which works for map at the front of the book and The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton which works for author initials in SACRED.

Woohoo, starting with a big page counter!
As did Trinia with her choice above with the second Outlander :D
I just spent a few hours planning possible reads till August as I usually do. Love pre-planning and over-planning.

I should have saved The Prince of Tides for this one but had a challenge that I needed it for ;P
I read that one earlier in the year too Trinia! Wishing I'd saved it for the challenge too but I have quite a few big books to get through even without that one.
Erin I honestly don't even remember the last book in the series... hopefully I don't feel completely lost!

I enjoyed The Prince of Tides. He's a beautiful writer, although his dialogue can get awkward.
If you ever get a chance, I highly recommend his non-fiction book, My Reading Life. It's very unique because it's not a book about recommended books or the dry recommendations on reading. He shapes one chapter after Gone with the Wind because of his mother, abuse from his father, memorable experiences in famous bookstores and different cities. A wonderful book for readers.

I read the first three, have a box set of the first four, but I read reviews that the fourth takes place with other characters or something. Have always wanted to read it though, forgot about that one.
Have one or two planned that over 900 pages, so let's see what I ended up getting to. Want to re-read The Dark Tower series and some other series, so crossing fingers!!
I haven't been reading nearly as much this year and have finally picked up this year. Too much news disaster doom scrolling every night on twitter.

Just added it to my never ending list of to read books! I really did enjoy his writing though, so I'm looking forward to it. I'll check my libraries for it! thanks!

I would love to get through the Dark Tower series! SO MANY BOOKS!!!!!! ARGGGGGGG

"
Great! If you read it, do let me know what you think.

I'm going to try and read a lot of Stephen King for TT as it was a yearly goal anyway. Certain books like The Stand I read recently and do not qualify, but he has other big, and small, books I have been planning to re-read or read for the first time anyway.
I read The Dark Tower series ages ago and it was good, been meaning to re-read for like two years. We'll see!
I did order a new book light that came in today to help with some of the lighting when I'm reading physical books and not my Oasis that I've gotten used to with the backlight.
I also have some Stephen King planned! Wanting to read Under the Dome and 11/22/63. I love the Dark Tower and The Stand, would like to do a reread at some point!

I just finished my re-read of The Stand last month - was a fun, slow re-read! Did Under the Dome years ago, but haven't read 11/22/63 yet.

Stacey,
I have to say first that I love your adorable dog avatar.
BOM Points really add up, so that sounds like a good plan. I usually participate in them heavily but this time may try a different route to save money. Some of their BOM choices tend to be a bit expensive, and Scribd doesn't have any of them this time for me, same with my libraries other than one with a long hold, so I'll see.
I'm part of the backroom BOM too and those are usually on KU or cheap so I will definitely participate there.

I've been wanting a new book light! Can you suggest a good one? I have a stack of hard cover books dang you BOTM club!) that I need to get through.

."
Yeah, my eyes aren't what they used to be at 42, and I tend to have dim lighting in the house. I have had horrible luck with the ones with the small replaceable 'round' batteries.
Got this one and love it is so far - it is rechargeable with a USB Cord, had different modes so you can do amber light, soft or bright.
What I really love is it stays folded up or unfolds into the "whale" to light everything at once.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08...
It has very good reviews so I'm hoping it holds up.
Edited to add - when I bought it, was 15.88 but now showing as 21.99 (? - maybe it was on sale)

I'm not real savvy yet with tracking sheets, I get nervous I'm going to mess someone else's stuff up. I'm not real familiar with them, but during the UNO challenge I did start using them and getting better.
I'm not a big planner. I typically let everyone else pick what tasks they want to fill and I pick up whatever is left/needed to be filled.
I have Chemistry Lessons which would work for Letters of HYMN in title and Cold or The Coldest Touch which would work for Letters CLD in title of book.
All these BIG books lol. I don't have a lot of doorstoppers. I think the biggest ones I have fall in the 500-700 page range LOL
I'm still trying to figure out how the points, books per month, and pages will all work out to whatever the team goal is. So bear with me as I'm still learning.

Thank you girlfriend! Maybe i'll watch it for a week or two and see if the price drops. if not, i'll splurge! LOL

Sounds good Robin! Don't worry, everyone here is super! No stress :D

Welcome, Robin!! :)

It's definitely fun - grows addicting =0)

I see there are lots of big books planned, I tend to only plan out the BOM and will pre plan books a week in advance as challenges arise.

No worries Robin up to you whether you want to use the spreadsheet, you can post in here if you wish. There are sections of the spreadsheet I’ve restricted for Captains only to edit.
We get 0.1 point/page for each book and it’s rounded down: e.g
100 - 10
200 - 20
300 - 30
400 - 40
500 - 50
600 - 60
700 - 70
800 - 80
900 - 90
1000 - 100
Over 1000 - 100
There is a cap on our team books/month and we are penalized for going over it. Don’t worry we’ll let you know when we are close. I will post a weekly update on a Saturday/Sunday with these figures in.

BOTM club is responsible for quite a few of the hardcovers on my backlist 😂 Y’all have a lot of doorstoppers planned, that’s awesome! I get so intimidated by books that are 500+ pages, but I also have a weak spot for chonky books. I have to psych myself up to read them and I usually love them when I do.

I used to be like that and ended up with loads of books on trackers that I never got round to because they didn’t fit with other challenges I had ongoing. Now I “try” to only plan a week at a time.

Thanks : ) That helps me out a lot seeing the points break down. In my little pea brain, I kept worrying about the number of books/month. Then I thought, just go with the flow stop worrying your team will help you LOL
I used to try to plan out books for challenges, but I rarely stick with any of it. Like you, I ended up with lots of lists that ended up discarded with books that didn't fit anywhere. So now I just read and have found more books fit in the challenges than I had anticipated : )

I remember in previous team towers the points penalty. It does help when someone claims to read 10 books a month but keeps dishing out 30-35 - if you have enough members on your team that does this, it's an unfair advantage. Typically most members will over-read, or under-read, most months depending on their time, what books their reading, and if their interest wanes, which is understandable. I believe it's the collective whole of the team to make sure does not go over. one Team Towers I was able to read more books than I signed up for because we had members drop off, and several reading way less than they said they would, do we were still under as a team even though I personally added several books to my count.
You sending us updates will be helpful, thank you! From what I've seen it's not usually an issue where teams go over thankfully, or at least consistently.

."
I got into pre-planning due to these challenges and my love of spreadsheets, and also Read-a-thons. If I don't read all the books it doesn't bother me though as I still read them later, just not for this particular challenge and time frame :)
I'm also a mood reader and plans change based on that, so I'm always adjusting throughout the whole challenge as a fun side-hobby. Planning in itself has become a mini hobby for me.

HA! I got the text at work and haven't had a chance to look yet, I can spend hours pouring over the options ;D

I did today :D
I had my yearly membership renewed recently so had thirteen credits. Spent three of them for six new books.

Ok, I have to know. Are you in the 'continue the series with hot prof' group or the 'please let's read something different' camp for Backroom? Either way, at least the conversation is good!

Let me know if you see any good ones on there! So far I either have read them already or don't know a lot about them.

"
Haha I am known to read cheesy shifter romance, mm romance and some reverse harem, so the oddball ones don't phase me, aliens and tentacles included. Most of it is pretty awful but I actually liked the hedgehog shifter one!

."
Not sure how good they are but these came highly recommended on reddit:
The Bone Houses
Super Powereds: Year 1: Super Powereds, Book 1
Alien: The Official Movie Novelization
Also grabbed these on my own research, we'll see:
Whoever Fights Monsters: My Twenty Years Tracking Serial Killers for the FBI
Road to Jonestown: Jim Jones and Peoples Temple
The Templars: The Rise and Spectacular Fall of God's Holy Warriors
And this was recommended but I didn't purchase because it becomes a free audio if you borrow on KU, which I did:
The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell: A Novel

Oh super powereds is on my list, recommended by a friend who has similar tastes to me so I'm excited to get to it. I don't think the audible sale is happening in Canada though which makes me super sad!

I live in Southern California and I love to read! I currently work in lodging on a military base. Besides having a regular day shift of 3 -1130 PM, I am also the back-up for the Midnight shift of 10 PM - 600 AM. When I work the mid-shift, I have more time to read, because I mostly do the audit and check-in and check out fewer people than during the day shift.
I haven't done these challenges in a while, so I am a bit rusty on how things will work, but I will do my best to check in daily, in fact, I wrote it on the calendar to check in daily because I can get caught up in reading and lose all track of time.
I have a daughter and son-in-law and a 2-month-old grandson, whom I haven't been able to get to see yet, but hopefully soon!
I do read a lot and usually have more than one book that I am reading at a time. Sometimes I do get so wrapped up in a book, that I forget to record it for whatever challenge that I am working on because I am not paying attention to the computer. I have a fiancee that I live with, but it is impossible to read when he is around sometimes. I do most of my reading at work or at appointments and at home when he is not or he is sleeping.
I do look forward to working with you all on this challenge!
~Happy Reading~

The Road to Jonestown is an excellent read. I’m very hit or miss when it comes to non-fiction but that book was well researched and well written. Harrowing, but good!

Okay, great. I prefer using Spreadsheets when possible to enter the books. Will fit in where qualifies for captains.
