Maven or Cal???
If I had to choose, I would rather Cal all the way. In my opinion, he was sexier and better than Maven.I have to say that at the beginning of the book I really liked Maven but due to the end unfortunately my thoughts have changed..

I think after that ending Maven is a definite no. I was feeling the Cal heat the entire book!
TEAM MAVEY ALL THE WAY HELL YESI hope with all of my heart that Elara is controlling him and that it just doesn't show because she's been doing it for so long already or something like that... A girl can only hope! Mare and Cal? No, just no. No offense to shippers but Cal was just acting like a pathetic puppy when Mare was around. He is engaged himself. Evangeline's a raging bitch but he doesn't need to ruin Maven and Mare's marriage, especially when he sees that they obviously develop feelings for eachother. And then he gives her dance lessons where he kisses her? TOTAL DICK MOVE. I liked him at the beginning but he just kept on trying to make a move on Mare and it just made me wanna scream. You just don't make moves on your brother's future wife. Sure, Maven tried to kill her on national tv, betrayed her etc but in some twisted way I'll ship them until the very end. (?) I really hope that Mare will be able to break through Elara's mindrape on Maven (?) you know you want him to pull a Warner... Meanwhile I'll be here plotting Evangeline's and Elara's painful and slow death

Exactly I love Cal so much I get why people might like Maven but he is just cruel he does not love her but wants to have her kind of like possessing something I love Cal so much.

I was totally team Cal and as I kept seeing people who were finishing Glass Sword talk about being totally team Maven. But I went PSSSHHH yeah right and kept reading.Finished Glass Sword today. Team Maven all the way.
I'm having Darkling flashbacks and I love it, though that ship sunk..

If anyone knws the alternate ending... Please tell me what it is. I wouldn't be able to get my hands on the new book for more than a month.... :/

Just finished reading the book. Team Maven all the way.
Now we have to wait for another year for the third book to come out
Does anyone have hope for Marven to change by book 3 and there be a good explanation for his behavior?

MAVEN!! Def. Maven even tgough i liked Cal at the beginning as I read further I felt sorry for Maven "The shadow of the flame" and I thought he was so sweet after everything he did. Although I loved Cal in the dance part (so romantic!!) But then he was like more firm and I liked Maven more even after the end!! Although I thought Cal was jealous at Maven because he saw them kissing I felt sorry for Cal because he really liked Mare. I definetely LOVE Maven even after what he did because I saw good in him I felt that he was just lost and needed someone who cared about him. He really liked Mare that wasn't a lie and he wanted to keep her!!! So yeah I think Maven is best for Mare so if she chooses Cal I will be angry but I would not stop reading the book!

I think that something will be with Cal but in the end it will be Kilorn.. When I firs heard about Maven I just loved him but now I will DESTROY his brain...
I'm team Cal, and I'm having a hard time understanding the appeal of Maven... maybe because I was always suspicious he might turn on Mare in Book 1? I feel like Cal is given a lot of complexity in Book 2 and deserves a chance to be loved. I think a lot of people sympathize with Maven in book 1 because he is the shadow of his brother but I think Cal's trials deserve some recognition too. Also, did people forget that Maven is EVIL and tortures children?!?! Just a thought.

After 2 books I still like Cal with Mare. I hope that Maven is put with someone else in the end. Or in my opinion given the sendoff he deserves!
**some spoilers**Although it seems improbable for them to be together, I'm for Maven and Mare. I've already read the first and second book and he's as bad and cruel as any villain. But because I believe in redemption and second chances, I'm still holding out hope for them! Even a small part of Mare still yearns for "the lost boy." In Glass Sword, she kept his letters I suppose as a way to hold on to that small hope. I'm sure that in the third book we'll get to see them more together now that Mare is back in the palace. Perhaps he'll fall in love with her, but without any pretenses this time. But by golly, Mare might be the one this time to betray him and crush his heart. After all, "anyone can betray anyone..."
I like Cal, but love Maven. I hated how Maven betrayed his brother and Mare though at the ending of this book. However, he did try to save Mare in his own twisted way I suppose, but she refused to join him. I hope that in subsequent books his character can be redeemed somehow. This series is full of twists and turns, so one never knows!
I'm halfway through the book and I'm in love with Maven... It's so hard continuing the book because I know Maven will betray Mare one way or another

Okay, I have always - from the start - loved Cal. Now, if you feel more angled towards Maven, I will respect that because I am a diplomatic, sensible person. (Although harm may befall you if you do not like Cal.) However, I feel indebted that I should list a few quality traits about my beautiful boy. First and foremost, I will turn back the time all the way when Cal and Mare first met. From the first mention of Cal's name, (and by the way, what a marvelous and beautiful name it is) I have fallen in love with him. When Mare attempted to steal from him, instead of becoming enraged and angry (like I would and many MANY others), Cal almost seemed to understand her situation. Now, I am not implying that Cal knows how it is to live a life like Mare's. I am simply stating that Cal has a kind heart: a heart that cares about his kingdom (or whatever you would call it). By reading the comments from above, I can sum up that the majority of you are enraptured by Cal because of his "bad boy vibe." And as much as I also find that appealing, Cal has more than just a "bad boy" front. He is kind and caring and has a heart that is noble and good, which will lead us our second point.
In addition, (I feel as if this is beginning to sound like an essay. Feel free to stop reading if you wish.) lets skip past a few events when Cal was teaching Mare how to dance. Not only is this kind of him, it is revealed that Mare seems to care more for Cal than for his younger brother. I am not claiming ownership for this specific metaphor (I have Cassandra Clare to thank for) but I feel like this metaphor puts Cal and Maven in such a clear viewpoint for all. Maven is a flame but Cal is the fire that burns brightly as the sun. And while many of you might feel that Maven is being maltreated by his father, what about Cal? His mother had died, and personally, I don't think his stepmother cares so much for him. I believe, and you, the reader, may disagree, that Cal has the right to have a loving and proud father. If Maven wanted his father's love, he should not have betrayed them all. I might be a bit biased right now because Cal IS my favorite character from the book, but I feel as if even though their father angled more of his love to Cal (love is not the word, more like focus) because he was next in line for the rule and the King felt like he should make his heir the best possible ruler.
And lastly, overall, I would say that I just love Cal for just being himself. He is heroic. Instead of cowering behind guards and from the war, he is the first in line and chooses to use his power for good rather than just a mere show of strength. And yes, this may not seem as a quality and more like talent, but I like Cal because he has talent. And I feel like he has that talent because of his determination and diligence.
To conclude, I believe that Cal is the better brother and the better person for Mare and the kingdom.
