Poguemahone arrived today, it’s free verse, which I still don’t understand the point of. Rhythm I guess. It not only looks to be a good story, but it provided my devilish grandson a new retort that only he and I know is Gaelic for kiss my arse. You can imagine how delightful this is to an 8 yr old boy.
I recently received the latest from Henningham Family Press from Unbound, The Lost Spell translated from Amharic, which I think is the first from that language I have read. David Henningham’s own book, which was at one stage goi by to be published by Weatherglass, seems to be struggling for funding though, so if any one wants to fund it:

I haven't read it yet - plan to do so soon.
I regret not ordering it when I could. I liked the Ethiopian style binding.
Mine doesn’t have that. I probably went for the cheap option!

One Unbound project I did support for non-literary reasons (i.e. crosswords) was Cain's Jawbone, a puzzle that I still haven't seriously attempted, but one which recently became the subject of viral interest thanks to Tiktok.

The Lost Spell is noticeable as well for mentioning coronavirus (it was published originally in 2013). Of course Covid-19 wasn't the first coronavirus (MERS and SARS are as well as other types that cause the common cold) but one for the conspiracy theories nevertheless!

I ordered The Lost Spell. I couldn’t find shipping to the US on the Henningham Family Press site so emailed David Henningham, they now sell their book through Etsy in the US. www.etsy.com look for HenninghamPress.
Has anyone read Poguemahone? It sounds intriguing but also 600+ pages.
Not me for obvious reasons but also doesn’t sound sort of book I would enjoy. I wonder if it will feature on Goldsmiths though in which case I would read it.
I have Poguemahone, but haven’t started it yet. It’s 600 + pages, but it’s free verse so the actual text is narrow columns on each page, probably less than 300 pages of the text was written the width of the pages.

I’m looking forward to it as well, but who knows when I’ll get to it.
