Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments I started the murmur of bees yesterday..
around 20% currently.. It's ok so far.
I'll try to do majority today & tomorrow and complete it by sat.

message 52: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments I'm also at 20%, infact all 3 of us were at 20% , nice ;)
hope to finish 50% today

message 53: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) Finished Mount char.
I didn't like it much. It felt disconnected and too unreal. Well, I can say too bizarre.

@Bookworm: Please update our teams progress here and in decade challenge thread.

Will do! Ohh..was it the writing or the plot itself that didn't work out?

Same. I'm around 55% for the murmur of bees. :)

@Pallavi, you have reserved fantasy right, so you'll be onto that I guess. Btw, you were super fast with this one! :D

@Vis, once you're done with current one let me know which one you want to pick next fiction or mystery. I'll pick the other one then.

Regarding murmur of bees, it's nice but I sort of have mixed feelings about it. Let's see how it goes.

message 58: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments Sure B. I was thinking I will go ahead with The Lowland 2013 for fiction

message 59: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) @BW : I guess plot was actually a good one. If I were to tell you about this story, I would use a straight forward way and you might like it. But the author has narrated it in a strange way, going back and forth, I couldn't place what happened when while I was reading. But just got a hazy idea on what might have happened... lol. might be my problem entirely.

yes, I will be starting on Fantasy today. I have good thoughts on this one. Let's see how it goes.

Oh..ok.
Something similar with the murmur of bees, it goes back and forth in time but that's also fine with me. The style, it's repetitive, maybe that's a linguistic characteristic of Spanish but here it reads like this - something happens and the author tells that over and over and goes somewhere else to link it symbolically to the statement at hand and then gives the direct version too! It's as if to make sure we did understand it!
Few instances is fine but it happens often. Tbh, I think it could have been a shorter book.

So, 2-mark answer, then 4-mark answer and then 1-mark statement. lol

It's not bad but it's not wow either, I hope the next 40% turns it around for the better.

Hope your Fantasy goes way better! :D

Visalakshi wrote: "Sure B. I was thinking I will go ahead with The Lowland 2013 for fiction"

@Vis, Sure. Go ahead! I'll pick mystery from 2014. Already have few in mind. Will finalize once the murmur of bees is done.

Updated.

Completed the murmur of bees.

It did get slightly better in the 2nd half. It's highly rated with many 4 & 5 star reviews, so possibly it's just me and not the book.

Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

For 2014 Mystery/thriller, I'm thinking of reading My Sister's Grave.

message 62: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) that's great @BW. You finished Murmur of bees and liked it..

My sisters grave is a wonderful read. I actually have finished all the published books under Tracy Crosswhite. They are fast paced and keeps you on edge. I bet you might finish it faster...

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Wow! There are 9 installments in this one?!!

I have another series that I need to get to once this challenge is done, Dublin murder squad series..Tana French.

How's your fantasy read?

message 64: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) I tried Dublin murder squad. Have read first one, but it's very slow burning mystery and I dropped the series.

My fantasy is going good. I am around 10% and the setting is exactly as I like... hope I will finish it this weekend.

message 65: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments Hey B, update it in the main group too! I think we are going strong! I will finish my book today

Ohok. Yeah I'll try the first one later and see if I want to continue the series or not.

That's great! Enjoy your fantasy weekend.

@Vis, I was thinking of again updating today evening/night along with your book! Or I'll leave a comment instead of the complete list.
How's the fault in our stars? According to you, worth the hype?

message 68: by Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) (last edited Apr 09, 2022 02:13AM) (new)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments I'm around 30% in the mystery. It's going good.
This is chapter 24 and I can't believe no one pursued Tracy's doubts 20 yrs ago, not even her father. Any cop or detective would jump on all the things the family had to say about the missing even if it would ultimately lead to no merit.

This is really really fishy. I hate when innocent are forced to plead guilty or got roped in and in this case, that's likely what happened.
I don't trust Callaway, Hagen (the one who saw the Chevy), even her father. It's as if they're sure he's the guilty one and wanted to convict him no matter what

@Vis, all of this is minor spoiler. But nothing that discloses anything serious.

message 69: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments Haha, it's fine without context this spoiler isn't registering for me! I will try to read it sometime.

I'm not that impressed by my book right now. It has characters about whom we may feel sympathetic but the story by itself is not very compelling yet... let's see how it goes.

I'm at 70%. The court scenes were good. But, now I'm having doubts again ... who else could it be. If not Edmund then his uncle?

@Vis, hope it gets even better for you. :)

I'm pretty sure I'll complete the mystery today. I'm picking it up every chance I get.

message 71: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) @BW.. shall I tell ??

message 72: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) @V.. I remember liking fault in your stars. I cant remember the story exactly but it turned out to be an emotional read for me...

message 73: by Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) (last edited Apr 09, 2022 05:41AM) (new)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments @P: Damn! I should have seen that coming. If there's one thing I learned from reading mysteries is never trust anyone. Sigh!

The ending is somewhat emotional. At the end, it doesn't feel like much but it did lay a foundation for Tracy.

It's not a mind-blowing mystery but still very much entertaining.

message 74: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments Hey guys, I finished fault in our stars. To be honest I'm not very crazed about it like the masses. I'm having different opinions. It's moving in some parts and other it's just plain philosophical kind.. That's really not my genre! Love stories and philosophy is not my cup of tea.

message 75: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) @BW: Nice to know you finished and dont regret reading it.

@V: Hope your next read will be good. I had a similar experience with Mount Char book..

But my current read is too much interesting that I am hardly able to stop reading and weekend is helping my reading.

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments @Vis, Hope you have a better time with your next read! :)

Updated msg 1. We're doing great! :D

@P, There's no way I could regret this.
I want to start the 2nd one in the series, Her Final Breath. Please tell me it's ending will be better than My Sister's Grave. *puppy face*

I liked the fact that Tracy is actually not 20 something or even in her 30s. She's a very good female lead, in my eyes.

It's nice that you're having fun with your fantasy! :D

message 77: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) I completed Age of Myth. It was an excellent book. Just like our teams name, I just couldn't stop reading this one. It's been a while that a book literally made me read it. Definitely going to read next in the series

That's awesome! Is the series completed?
I'll check it out this year.

message 79: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) yes... the author mentioned in the starting of the book that he doesn't publish the first book until he doesn't finish writing the whole series. So no waiting. The series is completed and published.

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments That's good news... :)
Also I'll update msg 1 in a minute.

message 85: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) yay... we finished

message 86: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments I just closed the book few mins back! came straight to GR to update! I read non stop cause I was thinking I'd take more time and our team would lose the upper hand.

this challenge is fun!!

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments @Vis, that was super fast!

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Guys, we did really good!!!
Had fun discussing with both of you.
To all our future reads and challenges! 😁

message 89: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments yes, it's the fastest book I'd completed in recent times. Like I said I didn't want our team to lose because of me :)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Our team wouldn't have lost because of you. You're underestimating yourself :D
I hope you have enjoyed it though!!

message 91: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) Which was the most liked book from this challenge read for you guys?
I loved Age of Myth. I consider it as one of the best read of this year.

message 92: by Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) (last edited Apr 10, 2022 10:44PM) (new)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments For me, It was Network Effect hands down.

The others were good finds too. Bad blood, made me look out for more true crime non-fic.
And My Sister's Grave has introduced me to an entertaining series. I'll be devouring the third installment, btw.

message 93: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments thank you :)
i liked The Lowland the most of the three. It was written beautifully.
Ready Player One was good but it had it's flaws and the movie is so different from the book in many aspects.

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments @P: In the TC series, which installment is your favorite?

message 95: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) Bookworm wrote: "@P: In the TC series, which installment is your favorite?"

I liked The Trapped Girl, A Steep Price and In Her Tracks. All gave me chills.
The 9th book is yet to release but is available in Netgalley to "Read Now" section. This means you will get the e-arc for free to read. I have already downloaded it on my Kindle.
If you are interested and have a Kindle, try registering in https://www.netgalley.com/

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments I'm half way through In the Clearing.
Once I'm done till 9th, I'll surely register.
I have one doubt, when you say Kindle, is the device necessary or we can still download it on tab etc. if we have the Kindle account?

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments And what's up with Kins? I hope Tracy is wrong and he's investigating something rather than joining the idiots clubs.

message 98: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) no need of kindle or kindle account... you also can have a Netgalley shelf app on phone. Yiu can download through that and read on phone
