Decade Challenge 2022 - Team Can't Stop Reading
We still have 4 categories and 2013, 2014, 2015, 2019 yrs to match.I'll be done with #1 by tonight. It's pretty good so far.
SoooooI completed #1 Network effect.
@Pallavi and @Vis, how're your sci-fis?
This is some coincidence, the 3 of us started sci-fi, just in different categories!! 😁
I really enjoyed Network Effort. Regular Me would have given it a 4 but I can't help, it's a 5 (atleast for now)

I'm editing our progress in msg 1.
The Lowland is good suggestion, Vis.
Does anyone want to go for a genre (a favorite maybe) in rest of the 4 remaining categories? If so, reserve that first, then based on convenience we'll do the leftover ones.
I'm ok with any, but I haven't read much horror and will have to surf (the only horror I remember in my tbr is house of leaves which I'm NOT ready for), so will one of you take care of it? :D *puppy face*
Borne is a bit slow. The author writes that way. It takes time to get in, but once you get in, then the book speeds up....About reserving genre, I think I will reserve Horror. It's been a long time since I read horror. So would like to give it a try
My sci fi is going good! I've just completed 1/3 rd of the book. I've seen the movie before, and as always books have more details than the movie. It is interesting!
that's nice V... (hope you dont mind me calling u V)I too had started watching that movie a few years ago.. but never got to complete it.. should watch sometimes
@Pallavi, Ah! True, some writing styles are like that. Network Effect was 5th in series, so it was pretty easy for me. I knew most of the cast and terminology etc.
Enjoy the horror!!! ;)
Do you have a nickname too, that I can use? :P
@Vis, that's great! You're having a good time, I take it. I haven't watched it.
Looking forward to both of your reviews. :D
Visalakshi wrote: "So far good! let's see..are you going to be starting non fiction ?"
Non-fic, I'll try to start tonight, if not, then tomorrow for sure. Since it's around 340 pgs and tomorrow is holiday..I should be able to tackle it by Monday (assuming it's not dry). It's true crime based, so hoping it'll be good actually.
@Vis, do you have any favorite genre in left over categories? fiction or mystery? If you do, then try to decide the year. If no such fav thing, we can look later.
@Pallavi, for your horror too, whenever you're free decide the year.
Since we still have current reads, rest we can decide as we go. I'll look for couple of alternatives for translation.
Most of the translations I know and heard about are either not matching the left over years or not 300-500pg range. Except:Translation: The Murmur of Bees (Translation year 2019)
&
Fredrick Backman book should be there.
I would prefer to read the murmur of bees, but incase of year clash with either of the other 3 categories then I'll try to look more.
Mystery/Thriller: I Let You Go - 2014
If no year clash with horror and fiction categories, then will go with the above two?
What say guys?
I think we need not consider too much for fiction/mystery. because we can adjust fiction with any year. we can easily find a suitable book for any given year!

Updated Translation and horror in msg 1.
The leftover categories are Fiction, Mystery/Thriller and years 2013, 2014.

That was awesome, Vis. Edited! :)
so we have only 2013 and 2014 to pick. fiction and mystery/thriller. If we guys fix books for those two , anyone who finishes their current pile can continue
Based on your wfh situation, I believe you have a toddler and I know it's not easy to do other stuff. Trust me, I have heard my fair share of funny background noise (kids) while I was on meeting/calls with my colleagues. 😁And 50% is very good progress. :)
I finished this one faster than my usual ! I suppose challenges make it more interesting! Haha yes, I have a niece here and she's super pumped at all times!
not a toddler... My boy is 7 but has a mouth of 17 :PIt takes a lot of talking around to make him do what he is supposed to do. :P
But planning to finish this today.. lets see how it goes..

Haha...
I'm trying to remember, how I behaved at 7. As far as my memory serves, I was a brat who ate junk all the time and watched cartoon network (I had single child privileges..lol).
You can do it!!! :D
And one of my senior colleague's son (5/6 yr old) would try to unmute his mum and read aloud words from our slide deck (that was getting presented). Another time he asked the manager to give her a faster laptop so that she can complete her work faster in the evening/night (I was having a blast with his commentary). Lol.
Visalakshi wrote: "so we have only 2013 and 2014 to pick. fiction and mystery/thriller. If we guys fix books for those two , anyone who finishes their current pile can continue"Yeah.
These are some of the 2013, 2014 mystery/thriller works in 300-500 pg range. I have avoid the ones that are installments in series.
Whosoever completes their current pile, can take one of these or even any other book too, if you already have one in mind.
a) You - 2014
b) I Let You Go - 2014
c) Ordinary Grace - 2013
d) Suspect - 2013
e) Reconstructing Amelia - 2013
Lol, all these kid atrocities :p it's funny to see.. I was such a no problem kid when I was 7. very sweeet :p I was never home, so no problems at home :p :p cool line up for mystery series. let's see if The Lowland (around 350 pages) is okay for 2013 fiction, we can pick anyone from the 2014 for mystery

😁
I'm done with Bad Blood. Will start murmur of bees next, will try to start tonight. If not, tomorrow. It's around 470 odd pgs, so might take more sittings comparatively.

Updated. :)
I think I finished Network Effect faster than Bad blood. Bad blood took almost 3 days. :DIt's good by the way. If you fancy the blurb do add it to your shelf. Reads like fiction.
Finished Borne.A 3.5 star read for me. I dont think everyone will like it as this author writes dystopian fiction with heavy bio-tech in it. I did like it but I am sure its not everyone's cup of tea.
Planning to start The Library at Mount Char today...

@Pallavi, Updated in msg1.
Guys, we're doing really good! :D
Guys, I was unable to start the murmur of bees. Got caught up in work. :(Will start today. *fingers-crossed* :)
@Vis, @Pallavi, how're Fault in the stars and Mount Char? Found new favorites?
Mount Char is ok... i am @ 20%Its bit dark and gory in a strange way. Not sure I will like it or not.
