Wondering what people thought of this much recommended book. I am a little over 100 pages into it and finding it kind of all over the place and, at times, difficult to read. Does it all pull together, get better, or what? The writing is beautiful at times but none of the story lines have really hooked me? Thoughts?

I stuck with it an ended up really enjoying it. I was actually quite surprised. I would put it aside for a few days and try coming back to it with a fresh outlook. I found the story lines to be more intriguing as the book went on.
I'm not into "coming to age" so I didn't like the book. It wasn't bad, but I should had never bought it.
Absolutely loved this book. Got hooked immediately, but even if you don't the book gets better as it goes on as we see the distinct differences in the lives and philosophies of the 3 main narrators.
Stick with it. Far more readable than Michener's book on Texas; the Original Sin themes and moral heavy-lifting questions will stay with you long after you put it down.
The first part of this book is difficult to read indeed, but stay with it. It is a wonderful read, and you will not be able to put it down. It's momentum builds and simmers.
While I appreciate the research the author did, all the graphic violence (rapes, hunting, fighting) was too much! Very hard to read.
