Family gets in car to go to mountains for vacation. Road decides to go a different way and ends up at beach. I read this a long time ago when I was a child.

Roughly what year / decade did you read it? We don't know when you were a child and 'a long time ago' means different things to different people. I'm guessing it was a picture book rather than a chapter book?

Remember which country / continent / mountain range it was meant to be? :) Or the type of car or anything about the family members (a large family? Family dog coming too?).

Was the protagonist male or female, or did you have, for example, a brother and sister depicted together on each page? Any other 'scene' you can remember? Were the parents totally freaking out, or was it a happy ending?

Illustrations - cartoony? Simple? Or detailed?

Do you think it rhymed / was written in verse?
