SOLVED. Children's chapter book about an elderly man [s]

There was a small children's book series I read in 2005 or 2006 at the latest from my school's library. The books (I think there were a couple of them in the series, I could be wrong) had a main character who was on all the book covers and in pictures throughout the book. I can not remember for the life of me what the book was about but they were very popular in my grade that year. The old man had a very round face, light gray hair that was balding and was drawn kind of like Stewie Griffin's from Family Guy. I'm pretty sure he wore a yellow shirt, possibly plaid.

The pictures weren't full page from what I remember...
The colors were very bold (not very much shading) and had thick black lines. They kind of resembled clip art...

I'm sorry I can't give any information on the plot but that's all I remember. If I think of anything else I'll add it.

*** Also it's probably in the same genre of Frog and Toad because I remember them being next to each other on the shelf, which is probably why I started reading the books in the first place. :)

I'm a fan of these books myself. I enjoyed them more than my kid did.
