Hassan | 52 comments In 1957 Derry, Maine six-year-old Georgie Denbrough is lured and killed by a clown in a storm drain. Eleven-year-old Ben Hanscom is bullied by Henry Bowers and his gang and escapes to "the Barrens" (marsh) and befriends Eddie Kaspbrak and Bill Denbrough, Georgie's brother. They also befriend Richie Tozier, Stan Uris, and Beverly Marsh and call themselves the Losers club. During the summer they encounter Pennywise the Dancing Clown in numerous forms such as: a mummy, a fountain of blood, a rotting leper, drowning corpses, a carnivorous bird, and a phantom. An increasingly sadistic Bowers targets African American Mike Hanlon and kills mike's dog but is driven away by the Losers. The Losers learn "IT"(Pennywise) has a connection to Derry and awakens from hibernation every 27 years to feed on children. They go to an abandoned house where "IT" resides and injure the monster while Bowers murders his father and gets his gang killed in the sewers before going insane. Bill preforms the ritual of Chud and engages in a battle of will with Pennywise's true form in the Macroverse and temporarily defeats "IT". All of the kids take a blood oath to return 27 years later to kill Pennywise. They get lost in the sewers where Beverly has s-x with all of them to create unity and to return to the surface. Bowers is caught and institutionalized and is also blamed for the murders.

I will give this book 5/5 for plot, originality, characters, themes, and pop cultural significance. I've seen the movie and the book is way more violent and "X" rated than compared with the movie.
