Donahven This book is one of the best books i have ever read so much thriller and detail and don't even get me started about the action

Dawn You said it. While Eragon could have been a bit less thick (it would have livened up the plot, I think), this is such a good read

Saarah same here! unfortunately I didn't get to read the whole series though : (

Sic Transit Gloria Great books. Now if only Paulini would write another...

P. Zach Hey people! Not to crash your party, but if the Inheritance cycle was the greatest thing you have ever read, you have a lot of reading ahead of you. Go forth and read the many other excellent books out there, then come back and talk about Eragon. If it retains its original sparkle, congratulations. If not, well, at least you discovered those other books, eh?

P.S. Pay attention in English class. Capitalization, punctuation, and proper spelling make everything better. :)

Haha, if you think literature is anything other than completely subjective, its *you* who should try reading some more ;).

Haha, if you think literature has no objective standard whatsoever, that's perfectly fine. If you think I'm not aware of the subjectivity of virtually any art form, note the lack of an out of hand dismissal of Eragon's subjective merit, and the replacement of such with an invitation to broader experience.

Besides, whether exhorted to or not by random people on the internet, I'm gonna do a lot more reading anyway.

Nice. I'm just not a fan of people who are going to make out-of-line assumptions about people based on their likes and dislikes, and, whether you openly state it or not, your contempt for this series and anyone who happens to like it oozes out of your writing style, I'm afraid. You don't have to state something outright to make it blatantly obvious, but you probably know that anyway.

Besides, your "invitation to broader experience" is nothing more than a put-down, no matter what self-righteous spew you couch it in.

Also, you've got to remember that not everyone out there has perfect capitalisation, punctuation, and proper spelling. If you're going to snipe at people on that basis, you're being, well, anti-literate. You're trying to narrow down the users of Goodreads to those who have a good grasp of English and those who don't, and you're implying their opinion is invalid because of that.

For some people, English is a lot harder than "paying attention in English class". And for some, why bother? They're trying to engage an interest in other people, find some common ground and make some new friends, discussing a series they all love (and you don't need perfect grammar for that). What's wrong with that?

P.S. Your last statement is a little rich, considering that exhorting random people on the internet to read more is exactly what you were doing anyway... Oh well. I've found trying to have a reasoned discussion on the Internet to be redundant at this point anyway.

P.P.S. I apologise for the rant if you didn't mean for your writing to be that caustic, but just think before you post, okay? While your post may not have drawn any replies until now, you're only going to hurt people's feelings or make yourself look like an idiot. Attacking the product is what a critical review is for. But attacking the people?

Keelan But, vitriol aside, you did bring up an interesting point. Objectivity in art, for me at least, ceases as soon as a difference in opinion is evident. If some people love it, and some people hate it, the argument ceases to become objective.

I don't want to name any names, but there are some truly horrific books in existence that truly wouldn't be loved by anyone (usually self-published). These are objectively bad. But when there is a difference of opinion, objective argument becomes invalid.
