HELP! NAME OF HISTORICAL ROMANCE WITH ABUSED WIDOW?!

Hey does anyone know the name of this book with this description? It’s driving me crazy. I’m pretty sure it’s by one of the “well known” historical romance authors. One of a series of maybe 3/4 im sure.

From what i remember;

Heroine is a widow. Dead husband was abusive. I’m sure she has brands on her body from abuse. Known for being or saying “scandalous” things at court but it’s a front.

Hero and Heroine had previous relationship when younger and he dislikes her/doesn’t know about abusive marriage at first/Possible he came back from war i think and she’s married?? She thought he was dead maybe, or i’ve made that up. Enemies to lovers type story.

The names of the characters and author just won’t come to me.. Either she has to marry him or they need to work together on something, I can’t quite remember. If anyone can tell me the name of this book i’d be so grateful
