Frankly, I'm tired of the last few years of war, unrest, rudeness, and Covid.
How about reading a book with an optimisitic viewpoint? Could be fiction or non-fiction categories

I can understand and appreciate your feelings on that. One of my favorite genres is Historical Fiction and LOVE those centered around WWII and the Civil War. Hence the reason I suggested that topic. Some of them in that category are "feel good" books as they have a HEA. : )

On a spaceship
Feel good fiction
Classic sci-fi
Feminist dystopia
Eastern Europe

Yes, Robin, I've read a lot of those, too. And I'm sure I can find something no matter what the chosen categories are!

I agree!!! At least we are given options each season : ) just in case one category is an absolute no lol One positive thing for me with the categories is that it pushes me outside my reading box sometimes and I have read some different genres/books that I wouldn't have chosen to read on my own accord.

Dystopia
Asexual/Aromantic protagonist
Literary Magazine
Horror
LGBT+ Sci-fi/Fantasy

Pretty much the opposite of urban mysteries... to me.
Several articles have been done about "rural noir", but I was trying to open it up to more types of mysteries. There are ones from cozies to grittier ones centered around drugs, etc.
In the UK, it might include many considered "village mysteries".

The polls for the Summer Group Reads choices are up! You can get there by clicking here or clicking on the "Polls" link in the top right side of the home page.
The ideas gathered from this thread will be used to build a list from which categories will be randomly chosen.
Each season's Group Reads will have 2 fiction categories and 1 non-fiction category. The year's categories will be posted in advance so Group Reads nominators will have time to research and select appropriate books. For more information about the nominating process, please see task 20.10 in the Rewards of the Challenge. As always, polls will be set up each season to choose between the nominated books for that season's Group Reads.
Please include a short definition or description with your suggestion.
