🧸🍓 | 48 comments What are some problematic authors and what have they
done?? I'm actually curious about it, also do you all read
their books or it's something that you all find morally wrong?

Alds ♡ (aldsinwonderland) | 153 comments tbh, I don't find reading books by problematic authors wrong as long as you don't support them by buying their books or promoting them. i know that there are some people who are vehement on not reading their books, and i respect that, but it really depends on you. i don't judge people who do. it's also important to respectfully call out those problematic authors and hold them accountable.

and to answer, I don't read them in solidarity with the people who they have targeted with their stuff.

audrey (falsechampagne) | 40 comments i agree with what A said, as long as youre economically not supporting the author, not rating their book and recommending it to everyone, its ok to read them

audrey (falsechampagne) | 40 comments you can buy secondhand or pirate them according to me (also before anyone comes at me for pirating, i live in a country where most of the books are not available at all and shipping is way too expensive for me)

Eliza (aidaneliza) IMO i think reading books by problematic authors is fine as long as you don't support the author (i.e. buying their books second-hand, not recommending them or promoting their books, etc)

Vera | 5 comments I agree with all of u.. but honestly I don’t usually look up the authors before i buy a book so how am i supposed to know? And also like where do u think the line goes from just normal to a problematic author? I don’t understand how they are being problematic. Is that like when the express ex. Racist, homophobic or sexist thing in books or just on there platform. (Obviously don’t want to read a book thats clearly something of the above)

I am very new so be nice to me. I just don’t understand. And if i would understand it would be easier for me to not promote the wrong things.

Alds ♡ (aldsinwonderland) | 153 comments ^ same, I also don't look up the authors before reading their books. Totally zero idea. I only look authors up if I really love their book. I usually find out about problematic authors from booktwt, and it's just disappointing at times if the authors mentioned are also my faves.

I consider authors problematic if they've been already called out for their negative actions, and they just brushed it off pretending like nothing happened. I know authors are humans too and are bound to make mistakes, but if they ignore to acknowledge their wrongdoings and continue on being racist, homophobic, or what, then that's being problematic for me.
