Children's book of Short Stories read in '93 about made up words from A-Z

All I remember is that my teacher read this book to us when I was in third grade, 92-93. Each story was about the made up word. There was a word and story for each letter of the alphabet. It was a large book and at the beginning of each story the letter was printed largely in Old English font with vines, flowers, etc drawn wrapped around the letter. This book ignited my love of reading and I would love to read it to my 6 year old son.
