Hi. I'm trying to track down the title and author of a book I read a sample of, possibly within the past two years. I'm pretty sure it is a fantasy book with a fictional setting, about a group of soldiers or mercenaries. I think they wear particular colour cloaks or uniforms or have a name for their unit based on that aspect. I'm pretty sure the book isn't The Black Company by the way! I think they are led by a veteran and he has a second-in-command who may be from a different country to the others. They're behind enemy lines or on the frontline of a war and when the story starts they have been sleeping, taking refuge or hiding in a building. It could be a villa or some kind of estate, on a hillside I think. I think they were low on food, tired, etc. They come under attack I think (possibly ranged attack). Or maybe they think they're being attacked. I can't remember for sure. They take a captive, a young noble (I think) who offers them information or the offer of some kind of alliance or deal. They're suspicious and have mixed views whether to believe him I think but decide (again, I think) to take him with them. He might have come to them willingly, rather than being captured. That's all I can remember but I do remember enjoying the sample and intending to read more but time went by ... Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.
