Hi everyone! I've been thinking about our next collection of reads. I spent the last three days on jury duty, and that got me thinking that it might be fun to read some courtroom-related crime books. I'm working on curating a list now, and hoping to include some lesser-known authors and titles. Stay tuned - I'll have the list posted in the next few days. I'm looking forward to reading with you all!

Thanks!
Lisa

Icewineanne | 725 comments Hey there Lisa, how did the jury duty go? Are you finished now? Courtroom mysteries sound terrific, always enjoyed Perry Masons as a teen. Looking forward to seeing your list!

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I've been reading Robert Bailey -- he writes southern legal thrillers that are a lot like Greg Iles. He has two series out: I've read one and am two books into the second, and I recommend them.
The Professor (McMurtrie and Drake, #1) by Robert Bailey Between Black and White (McMurtrie and Drake Legal Thrillers, #2) by Robert Bailey The Last Trial (McMurtrie and Drake Legal Thrillers, #3) by Robert Bailey The Final Reckoning (McMurtrie and Drake Legal Thrillers, #4) by Robert Bailey Legacy of Lies (Bocephus Haynes, #1) by Robert Bailey The Wrong Side (Bocephus Haynes #2) by Robert Bailey

I am so looking forward to your list!

Hi Anne - Most of my time was spent waiting to be called for a case. I was called twice, but eliminated during voir dire, and released on the third day. I was kind of disappointed - I'm one of those strange people who likes jury duty. I'm keeping tabs on the case in our online court system - I really want to know what the verdict is.

OK, friends, what do you all think of this list:

The Killer of Little Shepherds A True Crime Story and the Birth of Forensic Science by Douglas Starr The Killer of Little Shepherds: A True Crime Story and the Birth of Forensic Science by Douglas Starr - Nonfiction - A true crime story that vividly recounts the birth of modern forensics.

Say Nothing by Brad Parks Say Nothing by Brad Parks - Had this one on my list forever.

Anatomy of a Murder by Robert Traver Anatomy of a Murder by Robert Traver - Written in 1958, considered by some to be the most popular courtroom drama in American fiction.

A Game of Proof (The Trials of Sarah Newby #1) by Tim Vicary A Game of Proof (The Trials of Sarah Newby #1) by Tim Vicary - suggested by Leena, looks like a good one.

Presumed Innocent (Kindle County Legal Thriller #1) by Scott Turow Presumed Innocent (Kindle County Legal Thriller #1), by Scott Turow - suggested by Icewineanne.

Let me know your thoughts. If any of these looks particularly hard to obtain, I can swap in another.

Ahh....that’s frustrating. I would be following the case closely too. It’s interesting to see what they decide & compare it to your own thoughts.

Icewineanne | 725 comments I’m always in for a book of legal shorts!
Thought of another courtroom mystery writer, Presumed Innocent by Scott Turow, read this back in the late 80’s & really enjoyed it.
And one I’ve always wanted to read Defending Jacob by William Landay

Anne, both of those were on my long list! I was thinking of keeping it to 5 books, to take us through August, but we could do 7 and run a little longer...

I'm going to add Presumed Innocent as our August read, since we shifted our list up to replace Legal Briefs, as people had trouble getting ahold of it.
