Bri | 2 comments I read this book on my kindle around 2012 I believe. If I had to guess, I would say it had been published between 2010-2014. I believe the main characters name was Christine although she might’ve also gone by a different name. Christine began living in a house with a group of magically gifted children. There was a girl (I think her name was Nikki) who antagonized Christine who, while cutting oranges, throws a knife into the air and catches it with no issue even though she had never been trained to do so. It is worth noting that Christine is comforted by the smell of oranges since her mom smells like them. I think when her mom is introduced later on it is shown that she usura orange scented shampoo. Christine befriends a girl named Emma who speaks with a (French?) accent. She begins a relationship with a boy named Nathan who can smell peoples auras or something similar to that. Christine performs a ritual that tests your magic using blood. When your blood touches a candle I believe, the room is filled with colors. Only when Christine performs the ritual, there are no colors. She proceeds to cut all of her fingers to try to get a different result before Nathan comes into the room. He used his saliva to heal her wounds. That is all I can remember about the book considering how long I had read it and how young I was. If anyone can help me, I’d really appreciate it. It’s not an urgent ask since I’m really just trying to find some nostalgic comfort. Thank you :)
