Chris (dethkali) | 7 comments The primary thing I can remember about this book. One of the main characters ends up in the military. There is a demon/monster realm that can be accessed while sleeping and they maim and torture you but can't kill you. The main character keeps going into the realm while the rest of his troop are sleeping to battle the monsters to increase his power and strength. I think I vaguely remember the main character was a servant and having to clean a cathedral or something in the early parts of the book. Although it's possible I'm mixing up multiple books.
I checked this book out of my local library but they don't have a record of my checkouts from that long ago.

Robert (ricroscupshigh) | 539 comments Not an exact fit, but:

The Secret to Lying, by Todd Mitchell?

"James was the guy no one noticed - just another fifteen-year-old in a small town. So when he gets into an academy for gifted students, he decides to leave his boring past behind. In a boarding school full of nerds and geeks, being cool is easy. All it takes is a few harmless pranks to invent a new James: fighter, rebel, punk. Everyone's impressed, except for the beautiful "Ice Queen" Ellie Frost and the mysterious ghost44, an IM presence who sees through his new identity. But James is riding high, playing pranks and hooking up with luscious Jessica Keen. There's just one thing awry: he's starting to have vivid dreams of being a demon-hunting warrior, a thrill that is spilling over into dangerous and self-destructive acts while he's awake. As he's drawn deeper into his real-life lies and his dream-world conquests, James begins to wonder: What's the price for being the coolest guy around?"

Chris (dethkali) | 7 comments David, that is exactly the book I am looking for and Kelvin remembers it better than I do. Now we just have to figure out what it is called. Thank you.

Chris (dethkali) | 7 comments Robert, not what I am looking for but thank you for the reply.

Ok, when we find this book we'll solve two threads at once!

Do you remember anything about the cover?

I don't remember the cover. I keep thinking it was was a guy with swords overlooking a castle or city in the background but I know that's pretty generic and also the cover of hundreds of fantasy novels. Plus, it's always possible I'm remembering the cover to a completely different book.

Chris (dethkali) | 7 comments I found a post on Reddit looking for the same book. It didn't have the name of the book but when I commented on the post, the original poster let me know they had found the title.
The name of the book is Rage of Dragons by Evan Winters. I started reading it last night and it's definitely the book.
