Alysa H. | 3840 comments Yay I finally read my first maze book and have started my second!
I am getting nervous hearing all these stories about having to backtrack. This could take years... but would that be a bad thing? LOL

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12860 comments I'm going to skip my current task Read a book tagged 'Trilogy' on the first page - direction North, as I've been through every trilogy book I own (both read and unread) and not a single one works, except for book 3 of a trilogy I haven't started yet (and don't even own book 2 yet either, lol).

S The Fugitive (C: Albertine Simonet)
K Dead Moon (C: Kurt)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments The amount of books bad tagged on the Best Young Adult Books list is making my teeth ache

From Game of Thrones, to It, passing by Sookie Stackhouse, Kate Daniels and The Name of the Wind... the list is endless

Books wrongly tagged YA is so common, and really irritates me. Even worse, Discworld books are often tagged 'children's'... Grrrr...

message 307: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Yeah. It's annoying.

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Anybody know of a good book with twins?

message 309: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8050 comments Why yes. There are some brilliant books with twins.
Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children, #1) by Seanan McGuire Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell

You're amazing! As always!

message 311: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments OH! I forgot there was twins in Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children, #1) by Seanan McGuire !! I love this series and will probably do a re-read

message 312: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8050 comments Good choice, but Nothing to See Here is totally worth a shot. Well, all those titles are.

Now I want to read Every Heart again too.

Harry Potter? 😆

message 314: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12860 comments I've just received one of the dreaded 'phrase in text' tasks...

Gonna start digging through my tbr for 'hands are tied' in a book which starts with A-M!

message 315: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Ugh. Good luck.

I'm still trying to decide which YA to read. I reduced my choices to Splintered (Splintered, #1) by A.G. Howard , The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater or a re-read of The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater .
I also have Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman , but with the page length and towers almost there... it makes more sense to save it :D

So, any advice?

message 316: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12860 comments Thanks. So far nothing. Stoopid google books, lol.

The only one I've read is Illuminae, which I did actually enjoy, but as you say... towers... lol.

message 317: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12860 comments Found one! 6 books away from the last one in my TBR... It can never be the first, can it? lol.

I also really like Illuminae and while Raven Boys did not quite work for me, I could see you (Sonia) liking it. Just note that the first book isn't a complete story but just leads to the next one.

I read a chapter, I think, when it was a BOM. I then heard so many good things about Scorpio Races, that I got both in one of my book buy sprees.

However, instead of buying all 4 raven boys, like I did with the Splintered series (or the illuminae files) I got only the first. I should read it soon or risk to have mismatched editions - which irks me to no end.

message 324: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments I LOVE Illuminae but it's a great save for TT – lots of pages for slightly less reading effort because of the formatting. I'm also a big fan of the Raven Cycle series overall, even if it's usually not really what I go for.

message 325: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments I agree with everyone about Illuminae!! It's fantastic... but yes.. Towers lol

@Sammy... I'm so not in the mood for Harry Potter though I have another challenge where I need to find the word wolfsbane in the text and I know for a fact the first Harry Potter book has it... ugh decisions decisions

Paladin's Grace has wolfsbane but no twins. A fun, fast read though.

message 327: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I ended up starting Carry On (Simon Snow, #1) by Rainbow Rowell . I remember having a long lost in time ARC, when it did it's second release not sure when, and Karen told me about it.

I also remember not being able to focus much in the story because it felt too much like a Percy Jackson/Harry Potter crossover but a little more chaotic and confusing, and giving up back in chapter 2. This time I'm already at chapter 5... so we'll see.

Frustrating isn't it? I've had that problem a few times where there has been a book perfect for several tricky challenges, but I've really not wanted to read it. at the moment I am trying to avoid re-reads as much as possible, yet nearly every challenge seems to steer me towards them. ARGH! lol.

message 329: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12860 comments Aaaand I'm back at the start... Now moving east with page numbers that add up to 12 (and are an even number, of course). Should be do-able. (famous last words, lol)

At least the set up of these mazes keeps the discovered route, so no need to keep track like with the previous iteration - makes life MUCH easier!

Thank little baby kitten Aslan!!! Phew that would be so much harder! LOL

message 332: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12860 comments I would absolutely have drawn mine out if it didn't keep track. I'd go completely nuts if I went over stuff I'd done before to get to a dead end, lol!

Yep, I can't complain about a single thing the mods throw my way. I probably deserve it ten fold.

I liked the moving walls and the transportation points. Though way too many classics in a row since they were MPG genre tasks only

Just because I had to play driver to a kids birthday party but had to isolate for a bit because I was sporting an allergic conjunctivitis so, evidently, I used that solitude time to plot how to translate quidditch rules & roles into reading tasks, doesn't mean I like to doom us all.

Next you will say that WOBBLE is my fault? Sure, I might have mentioned that "if she can't choose one, we could ask her to choose 5 and run them each for a short period? like 2-3 weeks?". It doesn't make it my fault. And the rest of the mod squad didn't had to agree with me... Just because I said it when the voice of reason (aka Karen) was asleep doesn't mean a thing. Sure.. they were all excited by then.. but she could point out how crazy it was

(I think she did, but the rest ignored her)

WOBBLE was a great idea. If you take away all the "other issues" that arose and you polish a few things it would have been an epic challenge! I had fun!... some of the time.

I have no recollection of this.

Also I did have fun. My team was very chill and I managed to enjoy the games.

I did look at the archived game, and it looked like a hoot. Sorry I missed it.

message 346: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments RL played havoc at that time, so, not only did I have to give up on doing the challenge I was supposed to - maybe in another life - I also had to give up after the first mini-challenge. Sure, I helped with a bit of stuff... but I didn't witnessed most of the challenges and tasks.

Oh well... I did learn not to bite more than I can chew... so that a good one, right?

Alysa H. | 3840 comments So... I need to read a book with a photographed cover, but I have now spent so long staring at cover image JPGs that my eyes are now confused and can barely tell what's a photograph anymore!

I have a few obvious ones that I won't ask about, but also want to confirm that any of these three would work?
Where There's Smoke by L.A. Witt The Dark Heart A True Story of Greed, Murder, and an Unlikely Investigator by Joakim Palmkvist Rented Heart (Rented Heart, #1) by Garrett Leigh

message 350: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8050 comments Wow, I can see why you are questioning these. The third one for sure is a photo. The second one looks more like a painting to me, and the first could be either a painting or a photoshopped picture.
