I give up. Trying to keep up with you is... LOL

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments It also doesn't help that books that are tagged 2006 that I could read are either from the library, so they need extra effort, or don't match the need for a A-M title, or from scary authors, or just over 500 pages.

Meh.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12853 comments I feel I must apologise for my lack of a life... lol.

I wasn't going to read so much this year... HAH!

(although I am on my way back to the start of the maze, so you're not really behind ;) )

message 254: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I'm also at a dead end. Hopefully, I won't need to get back to the start.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Ouch.

And i just discovered that A Dirty Job (Grim Reaper, #1) by Christopher Moore is tagged 2006.

Nice!

message 258: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12853 comments I think I spoke too soon. This first page trilogy tag is harder to find than I expected. (you'd think that was an easy one!) Doesn't help that GR will only let you search the first 20 or so pages in a list. The less popular ones seem more likely to yield results.

I did find one that works in my tbr, but it's book 3 in a trilogy, and I haven't read the other two yet, lol.

and of course #1 doesn't have the tag, because why would life be that easy?!

The list is a great place to start, but you will need to double check it is on the 1st page of tags for the book you choose.

You all had a choice about how much of a challenge you wanted. Not my fault that several of you are gluttons for punishment! Have to keep you all out of trouble one way or another.

Of course not. Well, not on the first page anyway. I blame people and their rubbish tagging habits :D

message 266: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12853 comments ISBN10 used to be standard, but they switched to ISBN13 About 15 or so years ago. any copy of a book you have that's been printed after - I believe - 2007 should have 13 numbers, not 10. I have heaps of both, because most of my books are second-hand :)

Sonia, if you haven't read A Dirty Job yet, get ready for some great fun. Knowing you, you will end up with some new sewing/knitting/etc projects to work on, and when you do, I want pictures.

Oh, and for those of you who have read the book...

"Kitty."

Did you check the Dino Island books? Certainly that phrase is uttered somewhere in the text of one of stories. Or perhaps a MM romance that takes place at a dude ranch?

His Fresh Start Cowboy (Woods Ranch #1) by A.M. Arthur by AM Arthur is #1 in a spinoff of her Clean Slate Ranch series. It has "he chowed down on a chicken fried steak and fries" on location 818.

You guys seriously are gluttons for punishment. Weren't the first two books bad enough?? ;-))

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments All right, I need everyone's help.

My task is "Read a book shelved (listed on the first page on GR) as french - plurals and spelling acceptable."

I need the title to start with A-M so I can move North.

Eek! I could list quite a few classics, but I'm guessing you're not looking for those. Maybe see if there are some MM romances set in France? *clueless*

message 284: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I can only find France not French. I was trying to help. I've been watching you all do this challenge :)

message 285: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I wonder if France would count. I have found a few of those.

I guess I could read "HELP" or "SKIP" spellouts for it.

It's a bit on the large side but The Count of Monte Cristo has French on the first page of tags and it's a fabulous story! (Convoluted with lots of characters, but so good.)

Here is a shelf, but of course you'd still have to check if tags are on the first page: https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

Madame Bovary is a good story, might be a little dated these days but it is a classic worth reading. So is Albert Camus' The Stranger. (Both of these have French on first page of tags btw.)

Eta: Anything by Jules Verne - often sci-fi - should also have the tag on the first page.

message 290: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12853 comments Journey to the Center of the Earth qualifies, and is short-ish. I can recommend the audio read by Tim Curry!

Great list! May I recommend Fear and Trembling, it's a short book and quite funny about the author's intern job in Tokyo.

You can also check out Marc Levy's books (writes contemporary/romance), most of them have been translated into English and are short. Or Georges Simenon (writes mystery/thrillers).
Hope you find something you like!

Sorry thought I'd responded to this a couple of days ago.

Given I said no to spiritual turning into spirituality (or vice versa), in the interests of fairness, this needs to stay as French.

If you let me know which tasks seem to be in the wrong category, I can look at them and see if I agree.
