Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12868 comments Not a problem! I've been having so many computer and internet issues lately (new PC. I officially hate windows 11!), so was just wondering whether than was another to add to the list, lol.

That task is harder than you think!

I'm not sure if graphic novels are allowed or if it even fits your direction, but the only book I've read in the past three years with purple text is Teen Titans: Raven.

Teen Titans Raven (Teen Titans, #1) by Kami Garcia

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12868 comments Miss Marple's Final Cases by Agatha Christie has purple text and is a fun, quick read :)

Lyndi (mibookobsession) (mibookobsession) | 149 comments My task Read a book with the main genre (listed on the first page on GR) as Classic isn't difficult, but the next classic I want to read is Dickens Tale of Two Cities and I just don't have the time commitment for that quite yet. Especially when I unknowingly request an arc of the 6th book in a series I haven't started 😆. So I'm skipping.

Judy | 4065 comments Unsurprisingly it turns out I was being a big dumb dumb last night and missed the book with gigantic purple writing that is actually on my not even big Goodreads TBR - guess I was so blinded by all the yellow...

The Fiancée Farce by Alexandria Bellefleur

message 1211: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12868 comments These things happen. I spend ages and ages looking for something, give in and buy something dubious and then come across the perfect book in my tbr the minute I finish it 😁

That's the way it goes for me too, Sammy. Fortunately, Judy spotted it before she finished something else.

Kristie | 3595 comments I need to skip a task. My task was to read a book beginning with the letter A. I didn't have any N-Z titles to go south with an author with a last name starting with A. It's my first skip, but I think I'm doing this one properly.

I need to go south: Title starts with N-Z

S - The Wishing Game - author: Meg Shaffer
K - The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches - character: Ken
I - The Predictable Heartbreaks of Imogen Finch - character: Imogen
P - The Space Between - character: Pauly

Is there another step I need to do or do I just wait for the map to be updated?

Kristie, you'll still have to enter a book manually, like usual. You can put in the first title (The Wishing Game) and the details for that, then hit the submit button. I usually put "(SKIP)" behind the title so I remember that's one I used a skip on.

Hope that helps :D

message 1216: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Thanks, Steven. :) I just went back to reread the instructions. Should have done that before asking, but will take your advice to add (SKIP) too.

message 1217: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Sophie, I have a question for you...

My task is "Read a book shelved (listed on the first page on GR) as brain-candy - plurals and spelling acceptable"

but I can't find a single book on the page for https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...
that has brain-candy on the first page of tags...

Does this mean I *have* to skip?

I found some books that would fit, but nothing that I was interested in and had access to at the moment. I can always go back to my list if I end up with the task again though. Which book are you going with, Sammy?

message 1220: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Steven, there's probably something that has the right combination of few enough ratings and just enough people tagging it with that from page 10 or so onward of that list... combing through those for tags is truly my least favorite thing to do 🙃 and skipping is usually preferable

But actually lol I just went to page 13 and randomly selected a book with few ratings and ta-da, somehow Mistress fulfils those criteria 😂 https://www.goodreads.com/work/shelve...

message 1221: by Steven (new)

If you go to the book page for the hardcover on Amazon and scroll down, there is a section there that says "product details" and under that heading you can find the "item weight".

And the list has only the first books in a series, are we allowed to make series substitutions and read the next book in a series on the list?

message 1242: by Vaidehi (new)

Vaidehi | 228 comments Hello everyone!
I got the task of reading a book set in contemporary history.

Historical fiction is the best fit for the task but sadly, I do not like historical fiction set in 1900s and before. I wanna read a book set in 2000s and after. Can someone recommend a book that's set in past but not earlier than 2000s?

Also I have a few thoughts as to which of the following can be accepted for the task:
- A non-fiction book that came out recently, talking about, for example 9/11
- A fictional book printed in 2000s and after, which is set in their corresponding present time
- A non-fiction book that talks about history of a nation but the narration is still set in the present time

Thank you~

message 1243: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments I'm going to need to skip again. I can't find a book to fit this task: Read a book shelved (listed on the first page on GR) as started. I'm walled in and have to go south (title N-Z). If anyone has found a book that they used to fill this task, I'd love to know what it is. The closest I could find was Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking and that was page 3. 🤷🏼‍♀️

message 1244: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Quick question: I know for the spell-it-out rules that you can choose to use the T for "The" as the first word in the title or ignore it and use the first letter of the second word. Am I correct in assuming this is also the case for directional titles? So, if I need a N-Z title, can I use the T for a title starting with "The?"

I'm actually hoping to use this for a spell-it-out HELP. I'd like to use "The Charisma Myth" as a T for a directional title and and the narrator name "Lisa" for the L in HELP. I just want to confirm that I'm thinking about it correctly first.

message 1246: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments I now also got a bookdepository task...

Is there any ruling about what we're supposed to do with those? The website doesn't exist anymore and it feels reduntant to go to the Amazon equivalent of the page as we also have similar tasks for Amazon... nevermind that the Amazon equivalent doesn't seem to exist as I can't find paginated bestsellers
