S: Seaweed Brain
K: Kiwi Cat's Cafe: A Comics Collection

Does anyone use 'The' to get a title between N-Z? Both books from the 2015 Amazon list I want to read start with M's if you don't count 'the'. This task is so hard, because over half of those books aren't novels.

Before moving on with the maze, you should replace the books that don't work in your SKIP. Then carry on as normal.

entrance to a maze made out of books

We have an update to the mazes! If you would like to take part please follow the instructions below. If you have finished your maze and would like another go, just create your own!

To enter your maze go to https://maze.meic.dev/ and press create an account in the top right corner. The access code is NBRC2023.

Once you have done this, there will be a blue button in the centre to create a maze. Pick your maze size (10x10 is standard and has been well tested) and difficulty (description above).

Any problems please either post here or message the Mod account (or Sophie directly).

Don't worry, most of the tasks are a lot easier! That one unfortunately just seems to be basically impossible, I checked hundreds of books before I gave up and just skipped.

Do you know how to search for tags? I don't want to presume, but it is really helpful for these types of prompts.

message 969: by Eunice (new)

Eunice | 666 comments Yep, I think so! Do you mean clicking on a random shelf/tag and then changing the end of the genre link to the tag you're looking for?

Tricia (books2hooks) | 479 comments Eunice wrote: "Yep, I think so! Do you mean clicking on a random shelf/tag and then changing the end of the genre link to the tag you're looking for?"

Yes! Just making sure, as I found that trip really crucial to many tasks.

Task: Read a book which has the main location (setting) as Canada

Going West (uneven pages)

H The Stone Giant (C: Henry)
E Eye of the Needle
L Midnight Crossroad (C: Lemuel Bridger)
P The Princess Diarist

I'll be back to link etc. as I read them

I'm in search of some recommendations.

Read a book co-written (and credited) to two authors

My reading of this is that I want both author's names on the cover so Ilona Andrews wouldn't count for me - or I'd be well away and onto the next one by now.

ETA: heading East so even would be ideal, but would depend on edition I could get so please don't worry about it.

A non-rec: The Long Earth. Did not work for me in the least. But Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch would and is excellent fun!

If you want to shout at annoying bad science and irksome writing style: Sex at Dawn: The Prehistoric Origins of Modern Sexuality

Not sure how available it is now, but regency fantasy romp: Sorcery & Cecelia: or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot

Not checked any of the page counts of the above.

Will also say that ....Lose the Time War was lovely

Carmen (TheReadingTrashQueen) (thereadingtrashqueen) | 254 comments Seconding Illuminae (super quick as well!) and Good Omens!

message 983: by Sammy (last edited Jan 11, 2023 08:21AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12880 comments Any of the Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse, #1) by James S.A. Corey series. (There is only one author name, but it's a pen name for a duo of authors, not sure if there are editions with their names on?)

Daughter of the Empire (The Empire Trilogy, #1) by Raymond E. Feist and the other books in the series. Better if you've read the Riftwar books probably, but not essential. Fantastic trilogy!

Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven - cracking read, even if science knows a little more about what would happen in the circumstances now than it did back then.

Good Omens The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett , obviously gets another vote from me.

The Talisman (The Talisman, #1) by Stephen King King and his buddy write a dark fantasy. Another excellent read, and there is a sequel.
He also wrote Gwendy's Button Box (The Button Box, #1) by Stephen King with another guy, which is a super quick read. (again, not very scary, IMO, but definitely creepy)

Clive Cussler only writes books with other authors these days. just about any of his from the past 20 years would work.
unfortunately they tend not to be as good as his solo work :D

Thanks everyone! Probably going to read Mistress of the Empire to get a bit further with that series.

I enjoyed Good Omens and Leviathan Rises (finished the series). I've added some of the other recommendations to my TBR (getting it below 200 by the end of the year is already going backwards).

message 985: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments You have chosen, so this is maybe superfluous, but getting into the Aloysius Pendergast series is a good idea.

The other Sandy | 282 comments @Jenny: How do you search for books that were published on a specific day? Or do you just have to go through your TBR one at a time looking at the pub dates?

message 995: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Sandy, go to one of your shelves, or just your main My Books page, and hit settings up at the top. You can click on publication date, and save changes, and it will be displayed with the other book data like author and date read, etc.
