Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Maybe I’m reading into it too much, but my first interpretation was “a head has eyes, nose, mouth, etc so that means multiple body parts” but even a finger could be said to have multiple body parts. 🤔🤔

Yeah, if it was a team challenge I'd expect lots of people crying foul, but for an individual challenge, I personally would be more relaxed, though of course Sophie could come storming in asking how very dare I!

(and of course, when a serial killer splits a body into parts it's usually head / hands / feet / arms / legs / torso, so that would be my other counter argument!)

My interpretation of rules for an individual challenge is very relaxed. For this one, Cat's serial killer justification works for me!

Everyone waiting for mazes etc, sorry for the delay! I'll have some computer time without children on Wednesday so I'll get it sorted then if I haven't done before.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Lol!! The serial killer justification is priceless!!

Thanks Cat and Sophie and all those who suggested ideas. :)

It's in message 1:

If you are stuck, you can spell out either HELP or SKIP using only books that work for the direction you want to go and post the spell out in the thread including the task you are skipping in the post. You can then use one of the books to complete the square in the maze.

(*)Spell-it-Out Rules
Using the first letter in the book’s title, the first letter of the series name, the first letter in the author’s first or last name, or the first letter of a character’s first, last, or nick-name, or the first letter in the audio book narrator's first or last name.
If you are reading a translated version, you can also use the first letter of the translator's first or last name.

As always, if the first letter of a title starts with ‘A’, ‘An’, ‘The’, etc., you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word.

I have not moved in weeks! I have been completely distracted with books to finish other challenges now that the year is ending. And then the Read Harder Challenge for 2023 was announced and I've spent every day since researching books instead of reading any. lol

Personal preference! Some people wouldn't allow themselves to use it, others would say it's a reasonable substitution. Where this is an individual challenge, I'm ok with a more generous interpretation of the prompts.

message 941: by Sammy (last edited Dec 22, 2022 10:45AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12880 comments For me personally it would all depend on how it's used. I'd take the prompt to mean "have a kitten" as in "being upset", so I'd look for a corresponding meaning, even if the wording was slightly changed (after all, plurals are normally allowed in challenges!).

But that may just be my Britishness coming through. The original prompt maker may have intended a completely different meaning, lol.

message 942: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments That’s funny, Sammy! I never would have thought of it like that. Here in the US, we would say “Don’t have a cow.” Though you don’t hear the phrase often.

I've heard 'don't have kittens' before too, but it's not common at all. lol If you said it, I'd know what you meant, but I wouldn't have thought of it on my own. I love the way different people read the tasks.

I have several books talking about actual kittens, but in the book I mentioned it's used for being upset. That's also the way I interpreted the task.

"...my brother's about your age. I'd have kittens if he ran away from home."
Have kittens? She liked that expression.
