Donna (dkflynn33) | 2715 comments For this task: Read a book where the page numbers add to 22 (i.e. 345 pages = 3+4+5 = 12)

Does the page count have to be the version of the book that I am reading? Only asking because it is tough to find one that =22 to start with and when I do, the kindle version has a different page count.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Donna, it’s NBRC policy to use the edition you’re actually reading for challenges. Sophie has had some very big family things happen in the past few days and probably won’t be able to respond for a few days at least.

message 720: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Kira, it’s still open - it’s not a challenge that closes, per Sophie. But she’s also had some big family issues this week and might take a few days before she’s back to reply or get you set up.

That's because my brain is mush and I didn't make the actual maze after making the account. It's there now.

Echo by Pam Ryan
Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr

Hope that helps! :)

message 740: by Alysa (last edited Aug 17, 2022 05:36AM) (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments I got a task "Read a book where a character gets into shape"

I feel like that might be somewhat common in genres that I wouldn't read and know little about -- but can anyone think some fantasy/sci-fi where a character has to train hard to "get into shape" for something?

Or maybe a M/M romance (sports or not) where someone has to work out or train to get in shape for some reason?

ETA: also has to be North (Title starts with A-M)
Could also be West (Odd Number of pages) but I would prefer North :)

message 741: by Casey (new)

Casey (caseysbookcase) | 11 comments Sorry I can’t figure out how to quote on my phone.

Alysa, it’s been years since I read it but I think First Test by Tamora Pierce might work? It’s about a young girl, Kel, beginning training to become a knight. For fantasy I think it would be easiest to look for books where someone goes through like a weapons training arc where they incidentally get in shape. The problem with First Test is I think I remember her being fit for a kid before the novel starts but then also that she would still have to train for knighthood. Alanna: the First Adventure might work to for similar reasons, I just missed that one as a kid by accident so I still haven’t read it aha. Alanna’s series precedes Kel’s in the lore of Pierce’s world.

Hi Alyssa, for a MM I can recommend The Weight of It All. The prompt is basically the plot of the book. But I swear it's a good book. :-)

A Discovery of Witches could fit since the MC practices certain magic in preparation for something important.

message 746: by Claire (last edited Aug 20, 2022 08:54AM) (new)

Claire | 4251 comments I had a slight connection issue just as I was adding my last book in the maze, and somehow it registered the book three time ...
So I will post here when I'm done with the two missed prompts:

- Read a book shelved as nook - plurals and spelling acceptable - The Last Olympian - read 20/8/2022
- Read a book with an orange cover - The Catcher in the Rye

Direction: North - A-M title

message 748: by Casey (last edited Aug 20, 2022 01:46AM) (new)

Casey (caseysbookcase) | 11 comments Has anyone found a work around for the new book page not showing a full list of tags for books that don't have many? I've been using my lesser read by others books for the different shelf challenges, but now I can't get to that full tag list page for some of them.

For example Chobits 20th Anniversary Edition Vol. 1 only comes up with six tags now and no "show more" option, but I know it has a bunch of tags that have only been used once or twice because I considered it as an option for a book tagged "hardcover" earlier in my maze, but now I can't actually see that someone has shelved it with that tag before.
