Autobiography of a girl in a US army base

My mother mentioned this book to me. She said that it was an autobiography of a girl who grew up in a US military base. What her life was like, basically. Not sure when she read it, but I assume it would have been some time after 1980, and *most likely* before 2000.
Is that enough detail? She can't remember anything else about it because it was a long time ago.

Did the author just live on one base in the US, and didn't move around to different bases or countries?

I'm not sure. I don't think she left US, but could have moved within the country.
The main thing I'm sure of is that it was read pre-2000.
