For her entire life, starting with her father, Martha didn't think there was a man alive who she couldn't possess. She was confident that she only needed to bat her eyes and she would be back in Philip's good graces. There is no way that she was afraid of him until it was too late. She believed until the end that every man on earth wanted her.
I think she was hoping he would still love her and forgive her, but she also knew how ruthless he was. She would have known that her life was at risk. It's probably why she left her daughter behind.Once again I agree with Sharon.
This was one time Martha should have cut and run back to her family. Phillip may had caught up with her, but she had a better chance there than confronting him. Martha thought she could talk or sex her way out of anything. She vastly underestimated Phillip.
Yeah, I’m with Sharon. Martha’s confidence in her ability to control men was her undoing with Phillip, even though he’d shown his dark side.
