Meg and Nils romance…

Meg is subconscious about the age difference (she’s 34, he’s 28 in present day). Your thoughts about it? Did you have a different opinion when they first met three years earlier when he was 25-years old?

What worked/didn’t work about their romance? Where did you land?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments The age difference didn't bother me. Nils was a very mature 25 when they first met. When they met again, Nils was just that more determined to help Meg and settle what was between them, after he saved the day, of course.

Robin (robinmy) | 2466 comments I didn't think that age difference was a big deal at all. I don't know why she was so hung up on it.

I wasn't a fan of Meg at all. (I liked her better the first time I read this series.) When she FINALLY decided to tell Nils everything and let him bring in his team, she told him that she loved him. I do believe she had been trying to make sure he didn't get killed in the process, but she really didn't show that she loved him in the way she acted.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments Meg kept trying to blow him off, like he wasn't mature enough to know that he wanted when he wanted her. I know she cared deeply for him, but she believed that he didn't know his own mind when it came to her.

The first time I read this I was left with a much stronger impression of Meg’s issues about their age difference. Not so much this time.

I do believe that Meg didn’t trust Nils to know his own mind and age was a factor. But, what loomed larger was the distrust created by her failed relationship with her cheating husband. That clouded her judgment when it came to the possibility of a romantic relationship. And, in the end, she could tell Nils wasn’t being his true self to her and she was right.

I ended up being okay with them, though her stubbornness about accepting help from him was maddening.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3501 comments Good points. I didn't have a problem with the age difference. I had a problem with Meg. Not only didn't she trust Nils to do his job, she is one of those women who judges everyone by her past mistakes. A frustrating character. She didn't give Nils a chance until it was almost to late.
