Kaylee condon | 6 comments SPOILERS COULD BE INVOLVED (SO STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS)

Time frame: ruffly anything to possibly 30-50 years ago, my grandpa was born in 1949, but read the book when he was in his older/young years (older than a teenager time period) NEW INFO: He said it was probably published 15 to 20 years ago

Book description: No idea of cover or author but knew that it was a paperback book. Fictional/adult book, NOT children's book

Characters/plot: The sailor found treasure in the bottom of the ship and that was how the ship was balanced, but originally they thought they were rocks. He really liked war novels, so possibly related to war/history.

NEW INFO: Said something about being based off of Buccaneers

Where read: He read the book in the US, and the book is in English.

Where bought: Based on his description I would say he bought it, but since he buys everything in cash, and never wants receipts I would say there is no way to track it that way.

Misc. details: The ship or the title is connected or to or contains the name "Faith". However, this is not a religious-related book.

Unknown information: is it part of a series? what is its popularity status?

Keywords: Ship & Faith

Capn | 3506 comments Kaylee, the treasure that looked like rocks - what was it? Treasure chests with gold coins inside that were covered in barnacles or something? Does he remember? The type of treasure might be a good clue about time-frame and location.

Would he have read any of the Horatio Hornblower series? Is that the sort of reading he might enjoy? Horatio Hornblower 1 - 11.

Might it be something that could have been the basis for a swashbuckling Errol Flynn movie? :)

Or are we talking much more recent (modern) examples of piracy, like Somali pirates off the Horn of Africa?

EDIT: I see that "buccaneers" was added to the description - so Caribbean as a setting, right?

They thought the item balancing the boat were rocks, but then later discovered it was treasure, on terms of description I have none.

Horatio Hornblower series: that sounds like something he would totally read but he said the title did not ring a bell.

I don't know anything else about the setting, I think he was pirate joke, which is my bad I never know when he is joking through texting.

Capn | 3506 comments Ha ha, alright! :)

(So the term for the weighted balance in a boat is "balast", if it helps for search purposes)
