It's time for our next Read-a-Thon, and we are taking it to the tent for the Great ATY Bake Off!

Around the Year

It's time to fill your bakery case with goodies. You will read books to bake sweets and pastries! Each pastry takes a different number of books, depending on complexity.

You can bake your pastries in any order that you'd like, and you can bake multiple pastries at once (infinite oven space!). Don't forget about your sprinkles! You get some for every 1000 pages read (or 10 hours of audio listed to).

You'll want to create the best bakery case that you can bake, so make sure you have at least one of every type of goodie... they are all important to your score! You can have multiples of the same types of pastries as well.

Hey team flour! I'm looking forward to getting my reading back on track with this read-a-thon. I have a pretty busy weekend ahead, but I hope to carve out some good reading time in the middle of the hectic schedule (especially some audiobooks). I've added my upcoming planned books to the spreadsheet... hooray!

message 4: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments I have the week off, so hopefully I can break out of my reading slump and finish the 700+ page chonk I need to return to the library next week! (other books too, of course!)

message 5: by Deborah (last edited Feb 18, 2022 03:02PM) (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments Hello team Flour!! I have big plans to get a lot of reading in this weekend because my TBR is a little ridiculous right now and I do have a three day weekend. I do have a 24 hour readathons this weekend and one next weekend too, so hopefully that will help in addition to the motivation I always get from the ATY team readathons. I'll go through the list and put in my likely / planned reads too.

I may have missed it because my brain is all over the place today with distractions - but if a book is in progress is there a rule of how many pages have to be left as of the start of the readathon?

message 6: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 231 comments Hi Team Flour! I hope to add enough to our team with books that I already planned on reading, but now may switch some things to round out the recipes. I added two books I am currently reading into the spreadsheet and one I plan to start this weekend. :-)

I believe it needs to be 100 pages or more left.

message 8: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2088 comments Hello team Flour. I have soooooooooooo many books sitting ready to go, but we'll see how many I actually get to.😏

message 9: by Caitie (new)

Caitie | 140 comments Hi Team Flour! I’m visiting friends this weekend so might get less reading done during the weekend than I normally would but will hopefully be able to fit some in. Also expecting to read a lot while I’m traveling. I have lots of books in Libby so will choose some short ones!

message 10: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11185 comments Mod
That's correct, Kendra. It has to have 100 pages left to go.

I got lost in my book and went past the 100 pages remaining mark, so I just went ahead and finished it tonight lol. I'll be starting a new book fresh tomorrow.

message 11: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments My current reads all have over 100 pages left but I'll prioritize reading those with the most pages left tonight.

message 12: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments I finished The Visitors. I stopped reading last night with 101 pages to go. There were few options as to where to count this other than a couple where there are LOTS of other people reading books that would fit. I ended up putting it in LC Cannoli under the "sour" character prompt since a number of the ghosts are curmudgeony. On the plan sheet I marked the book complete and shaded the box where I counted it green. Happy to change it once we decide on a standardized way to treat completions. Happy reading!

message 13: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2088 comments I finished Red, White, and Whole and it left me sobbing! I used it for A book were food plays an important role.

And I went with light green to show that the prompt had been finished once. I figure we can use light blue, light purple and pink for when we finish for a second, third or forth time.

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11185 comments Mod
Maybe we can do a separate tab and move completed books to that, so it doesn't mess with the options count for each prompt?

Kendra | 2088 comments Emily wrote: "Maybe we can do a separate tab and move completed books to that, so it doesn't mess with the options count for each prompt?"

Or we could just delete the x and leave a blank but green square for where completed books are. Less tabs to deal with and the option count stays current. If you also want to get rid of the x's for prompt that a book could have been used for, we could go with a yellow empty square.

I'd prefer to keep on the same tab, too, but I do like seeing some indication of what prompts we don't have on the planning sheet. Blank shaded-in squares seem good to me, as long as the colors are clear somewhere.

message 17: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments That makes sense to me! I removed the xs for categories not used but marked them yellow.

In a past readathon we'd also moved completed books to the far right and added new columns before them to put new in progress/tbr books to keep the current contenders easier to find so that could be an option too if it gets too full.

message 18: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I put The Shadowed Sun in for next in a series - everything it fit had about equal numbers in the count column. But can be moved as needed.

I think I'm picking up Wahala next which likely will be done today too as I'm halfway in, but I've been reading since 5am so we'll see. Lol

message 19: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2088 comments I finished Life's Too Short and I used it for the yellow cover.

message 20: by Lois (new)

Lois Anderson | 56 comments I finished The Crown of Gilded Bones and used it for over 500 pages.

message 21: by Caitie (new)

Caitie | 140 comments Hi everyone! Sadly I had a migraine yesterday so couldn’t get much reading done 😢 but I’m a passenger on a 2 hr today and don’t get carsick so hopefully can make good progress!!!

message 22: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11185 comments Mod
Reminder that we will probably go through these prompts a few times (we can bake as many of these goodies as we want) so a completed prompt doesn't necessarily mean we won't read it again.

I am.. TIRED. Spent all night at a Mardi Gras ball, so aside from audiobooks to drive there, I didn't get much reading done. I'm traveling again today, but without my husband this time, so I'll definitely finish The Office of Historical Corrections and possibly start another book in the drive.

message 23: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments Migraines are the worst! Glad you're feeling better today!

I finished up Wahala and put it in the spreadsheet before completely passing out super early. I am up early again today as a result... not sure what I'm prioritizing today and I have a few non reading things planned, but I should be able to make some good progress today once I get some coffee in me! :)

message 24: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2088 comments I read Long Way Down: The Graphic Novel and I used it for the short book. It was good, but the original was better. We almost have our first Cannoli. Go team!

message 25: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2088 comments I read The Housekeeper and the Professor and I used it for 'A place you'd like to visit' because I'd love to go to Japan.

Side note - does anyone have a book for the Madeline author???

message 26: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 231 comments I just got a book on Libby that was tolerable (LOL) written by a Madeline. Planning on starting it after I finish a book tonight.

Hey team! I finished up The Office of Historical Corrections today during my drive, so I slotted it in for black and white on the cover as it didn't fit many options. Starting The Girl Who Smiled Beads: A Story of War and What Comes After tomorrow, and hoping to finish that one by the end of the week as well.

message 29: by Elli (new)

Elli | 0 comments Hi everybody! Just checking after a hectic weekend at work. It's my off day today so I aim to finish one book by the end of the day.

message 30: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments My reading plans were derailed today but do plan to read this evening finally and hopefully will finish up something. I do have the day off tomorrow with no plans too.

message 31: by Katherine (last edited Feb 20, 2022 09:50PM) (new)

Katherine | 231 comments Just finished my first book, Ender's Game. There were only really two places it could go, so I put it in An Author New To You for now, since we didn't have a finished book there, yet. (Can also fit under A Short Book) I've never done this before, so not sure if I am supposed to fill out the box on the recipe or not.

message 32: by Lois (new)

Lois Anderson | 56 comments Hi all!

Just finished Reminders of Him and my heart still can't handle it! I filled in the category of Newest book by an author you have read before. I also made progress on my audio The Sweetest Remedy today.

message 33: by Elli (new)

Elli | 0 comments Finished Riot Baby & placed it for "A book used for the 2022 ATY Reading Challenge".

Hey Katherine, you can put the book on the recipe tab! We are so close to our first cannolli!

I read a whopping 7 pages in print yesterday lol. I was reading in the bathtub and fell asleep... luckily my book didn't fall in the water! I'll be trying to read more print today. I have to finish this one by Thursday before my book club meets.

message 35: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments Finished I Can't Make This Up. With limited options of where to place this, I put it on the black and white cover prompt of the Madeleines recipe.

message 36: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I'm struggling to decide what to read this week and don't have any particular options in mind for the categories we especially need, but I did start a new audio and a new print today so should hopefully finish at least one today since I'm off work.

message 37: by Lois (new)

Lois Anderson | 56 comments I just read on the FAQ's that Madeleine Wickham is one and the same as Sophie Kinsella, which I did not know. It was answered that any book by either author would count for the Madeline prompt. I might be persuaded to pick one up this week. I could probably get through that pretty quickly. I thought this might help someone else.

message 38: by Caitie (new)

Caitie | 140 comments Just finished And Then There We’re None and put it as Takes Place in the Wilderness. Next is The Confession if Copeland Cane!

message 39: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 231 comments I finished Goodnight Beautiful this morning. I had limited choices of where to put it, so started a second mini roll as a book used for the 2022 ATY Reading Challenge. Just finished All's Well and entered that as a book with a circle on the cover--because there are a TON of circular pills on the cover, so I hope that counts! I also started Asylum by Madeline Roux -- so we will have at least one Madeline. Had to get a lot of reading done today, since I'm back to work tomorrow!

message 40: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments A bit of a stretch but one of my books mentions the seaSHELL of a character's ear and there are ears on the cover... So a stretch for shell? Trying to get creative since we don't yet have possibilities for shell. 😂

I did also just finish The Dog Stars which won't work for any fully open category but I'll fill it in as a second.

message 41: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2088 comments I finished Hunt the Stars and I used it for the comfort read, so we now have a Mini Roll.

message 42: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments I finally finished a book! I can’t get the link to work for The Love Songs of W. E. B. DuBois but I did add it to the spreadsheet for over 500 pages to start a new focaccia.

Now I’ll have to see what’s up next.

message 43: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I swear I used to be able to link books using the browser on my phone (I know the app didn't have link ability) but I can't anymore.

I have one book to add (The Storyteller) which I'll put in a prompt I'm sure of, but if we get desperate enough to try an ear as a shell, we can move it.

message 44: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 231 comments I picked up Eggs today from my classroom and can start it tomorrow-ish. It's a YA book, so should be a quick read. That will give us at least one "shell."

message 45: by Lois (new)

Lois Anderson | 56 comments I finished The Sweetest Remedy and now we are almost done with the first Foccaccia. We just need an important meal book. I have one I'm reading for book club this week If We Were Villains. I really don't know if it has an important meal or not. Does anyone have anything for that prompt?

message 46: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments I read Stuart Little today. One of the few places it could count was in mini-rolls - book under 250 pages.

message 47: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11185 comments Mod
Lois, you could probably use it for meal. There is a scene where the narrator is sitting around the table and his parents tell him some important news... it's definitely integral to the ending of the book. I say go for it!

I'm going to finish In Every Mirror She's Black today, hopefully. I'll probably put it for red on the cover.

Anyone have an Italy book going?

message 48: by Elli (new)

Elli | 0 comments Yes I have Our Darkest Night on audio

message 49: by Caitie (new)

Caitie | 140 comments I'm making some progress on The Confession of Copeland Cane. For a short book (288 pages) it reads very slowly but I'm so enjoying it!

message 50: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11185 comments Mod
That's good to hear, Caitie! It's currently checked out from the library and waiting on me to pick it up... I don't know if I'll get to it before the Tournament of Books starts but I'm going to try!
