Aleksander | 129 comments I don't know if there are many out there, but I would love any sort of crime-adjacent books with queer (preferably M/M but I'm open for anything) main characters! Obviously I would prefer one's where the MC don't die, but that's not a deal breaker

Josh Lanyon is a favorite author of mine. She writes M/M mysteries/thrillers.

The Adrien English Mysteries Series and the Holmes & Moriarity Series are two of her most famous series of the "meddling amateur sleuth" variety; her Secrets and Scrabble Series are cozies in the same vein.

Her All's Fair Series and The Art of Murder Series have LEO (present or former) MCs. She has a lot of other great series and standalones (Winter Kill, a police procedural, being a favorite).

I liked the Seven of Spades series by Cordelia Kingsbridge, and Bitter Legacy (though I never read the next in Dal Maclean's series).

Mary Calmes's Marshal's series.

I also liked the Cut & Run series to begin with, but it went downhill after author Madeleine Urban left the series.

Mahu by Neil S. Plakcy is a decent mystery.

That's the classic series, but Dave Brandstetter is an insurance investigator; I wasn't sure whether it was "crime adjacent" enough.

Denis DeLong | 211 comments You might enjoy some of the Pharaoh Love series by George Baxt; also the celebrity murder series (same author) are camp enough to be fun.

M_ | 52 comments The Page & Sommers series by Cat Sebastian.
(Hither, Page & The Missing Page)

This is a good cozy crime mystery: In the Winter Woods

The Henry Rios series by Michael Nava

I've never read this series so I'm not sure how prominent the queer elements are but: the Hap and Leonard series by Joe Lansdale

Instinct

Eric Bruce | 235 comments Have you tried James Ellroy ? Maybe White Jazz as a taster .

message 18: by SamSpayedPI (new)

SamSpayedPI | 2306 comments Does White Jazz have a queer MC? There's no mention of it on the GMP or reviews that I've seen.

message 19: by Rain (new)

Rain | 13 comments The Protectors series by Sloane Kennedy is an underground vigilante justice group. It's all MM. It's less dark than most underground/crime/mafia books, if that's what you're into. However, one of the MCs (the vigilante one) will probably have to kill to save the other MC, a "doing the wrong thing for the right reason". But you're never conflicted as to whether or not it was deserved. Note: the series has many tie-in/related series as it is part of a huge universe.
