To Kill a Mockingbird - 5 stars
Rebecca - 5 stars
The Kite Runner - 5 stars
Life of Pi - 5 stars
Pride and Prejudice - 5 stars
Little Women - 5 stars
Beloved - 4 stars
A Suitable Boy - haven't read it...yet...
Not on the list, but the theme of Part 1 is The Time Traveler's Wife, which I did not like. I gave that book 2 stars.
Do you like the reading list in The Reading List?
What would be on your list - In Case It Helps?

Yay! Alissa has also just started and I'm not halfway yet. Some of the characters haven't read books in a long time and seem intimidated to discuss their thoughts on books. I can relate to that, sometimes I hesitate to say too much because I'm still trying to work out what I'm thinking and I don't want to offend anyone.
I also had a theory on who created the list, but now I'm not sure.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
11/22/63 by Stephen King
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
Still Alice by Lisa Genova
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandall

I love your list, Denise. I love all the books you have on it that I have read, and the only one I haven't read yet is The Five People You Meet in Heaven which I own. A friend bought for me years ago and keeps asking if I've already read it. I'm going to have to squeeze that one in somehow!

OMG Kite Runner is SO good!!! But yes, grab the tissues.
I have not read Life of Pi or A Suitable Boy
I am loving how all of these people in different backgrounds are all reading the same books but having different experiences with them that are associated with their real-life experiences. BOOKS. ARE. MAGIC. <3

I LOVE coming up with our own Reading Lists! I feel like I would need 2, one for children and one for adults, because so many childrens' books moved me and motivated me to become a reader.
Here is my Children's Reading List:
Matilda by Roald Dahl
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Cleary
Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume
Hatchet by Gaul Paulsen
Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by JK Rowling
Here's my adult list (this was HARD)
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
Night Road by Kristin Hannah
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
It by Stephen King
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult

I agree regarding The Kite Runner - amazing, but a tough book. It broke my heart!
Life of Pi is completely different, but very good. For me, the ending is super uncomfortable, but also pure perfection. It is controversial though. Lots to discuss. I haven't seen the movie, but if you haven't seen the movie or the book, don't see the movie first.
And yes! I love how all these people with different backgrounds are reading the same books but experiencing them so differently. Have you ever re-read a book and had a completely different experience than the first time? Books are magic and I love to experience them with others! :-)

I have five books I haven't read on your children's list and two on your adult list! And I'm dying to re-read some of the children's books - at a different stage of life, they will mean something different. I'm loving your book lists!

Denise, I'm so glad you loved the book! I thought the ending was a big warm hug after what happened and loved how the book discussions transcended age, race and gender. Everybody was touched by the words in the books differently.
I was surprised about (view spoiler)

Don't leave me hanging! Which ones?? lol

I need to read Matilda, Bridge to Terabithia, Maniac Magee, Hatchet, and Where the Red Fern Grows on your children's list. I have a lot of work to do. :-)
From your adult list, I have The Secret History on my Individual Challenge this year, so I'll probably read that sometime this year. Or next year.
I also haven't read Night Road yet, but I want to.
