Help me find this book please

I read this book in 2017 or 2018. I think the book has 2 separate stories in it. One was a Romeo and Juliet style love story where it ends with their village burning down I think. The other was about ww2 and describes how in the concentration camps, musicians were taken to a separate area. They then had to play songs while people were marched to their death. Music was a major theme in this book.

So now my questions - was it a newish book when you read it? Do you remember anything about the cover (colour, an image)? And can you remember any character names or places?
