Phillip Murrell | 100 comments I love action. However, I prefer it with actual consequences. I hate "suicide missions" without any true risk to named characters. Do you have a preference either way? Do you have examples for me to peruse?

Maybe you'll even take a chance on an indie author who used a 20-year (and counting) army career to write intense battle scenes? It's part of the reason why I started writing. If I may be so bold, take a chance on my books, The Soldiers' Perspective, Augury Answered, and my superhero series, Bystanders, all have a lot of fight scenes with significant casualties.

That being said, sometimes I like a slower pace with relative "safety." My zombie comedy, Zombie Walkabout, isn't like any other zombie book. People hunt zombies on vacation for fun in genuine safety.

Perhaps some of these sound interesting. Perhaps you write your own stuff one way or the other. Which type of story do you prefer. I'd love examples of each to add to my to be read folder. Thanks.

Geoffrey Porter (trulyjuxta) | 3 comments I want stuff with strong characters over a strong world. Worlds don't interest me as a reader as much as characters do.

I want description to be kept to a minimum, I don't want to read three pages describing a tree. Or like an entire page just describing one person's appearance and dress. If we must have all these details, feather them in across multiple pages and even multiple chapters, not one page.
