Children's book about a doll running away from a toystore.

Read during the late 90's but the book was written during a much older time ..perhaps early 19th century. The author was not someone very popular/ heard of ( ex: like Enid Blyton) . Towards the end of the story there was some encounter with midges .. or song about them. And maybe a blue moon when the doll ran away .
